JAPANESE EMPEROR, EMPRESS END 8-DAY VISIT TO MONGOLIA

Japan's emperor and emperors have wrapped up their official visit to Mongolia.
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako on Saturday watched a horse race. As part of a traditional sports festival, over 100 child jockeys guided their horses through a 22-kilometer course.
The race symbolizes the tradition of Mongolians living as nomads on horseback. The Imperial Couple also visited the Hosta National Park to see the oldest species of wild horse known as tahi. In the 1960s, the species was declared extinct in the wild, but efforts are underway to reintroduce it to its natural habitat.

"I was able to see many horses up close."
"It was a week of pleasant immersion in Mongolia's rich history, culture and beautiful natural surroundings."

The imperial couple departed Mongolia on Sunday.

WORLD EXPO IN OSAKA REACHES HALFWAY POINT

The 2025 World Expo in Osaka has reached the halfway point to its finish in October.
While the number of visitors has been growing, protecting them from extreme heat has been a challenge.
The expo opened in April with 158 countries and regions participating.
Despite the grueling heat on Saturday, many spectators enjoyed Japan's Air Self-Defense Force's Blue Impulse acrobatic flight performance.
The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition estimates that the event has to draw at least around 22 million visitors to be profitable. The provisional visitor count by Saturday was over 10 million, easing concerns that it would sustain losses which some predicted before it opened. While visitors are enjoying the exhibition, areas for improvement have been pointed out.

It's so hot. It's like a sauna.

There are only a limited number of pavilions with roofs, and visitors often have to wait in line for hours before being allowed in. From June 1 to July 11, 28 people were taken to a hospital from the Expo site for suspected heat stroke. The association has added more supply water supply points, as well as installing parasols and spot coolers to help protect visitors. It's also adjusting some events hours to ease daytime congestion and enhance visitor satisfaction, even outside the pavilions.

30TH ANNIVERSARY OF SREBRENICA MASSACRE

And people in Bosnia and Herzegovina are marking the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre. It's known as Europe's worst atrocity since World War II.
A ceremony was held on Friday. In July 1995, armed Bosnian Serbs seized the town of Srebrenica and murdered more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslims who had taken shelter there. The breakup of the former Yugoslavia had sparked fierce ethnic conflicts. And in the Netherlands, a monument was unveiled in The Hague. That is where a United Nations tribunal sentenced the commander of the armed forces to life in prison. It was the UN's first war crimes court, and it paved the way for the International Criminal Court.

A government survey has shown that across Japan, more than 80% of mothers in households with children under 18 are working, the highest percentage on record. The Labor Ministry released its findings from last year's annual survey. It said out of an estimated 8,886,000 households, 80.9% had working mothers. That's up by 3.1 percentage points from the previous survey in 2023, surpassing the 80% mark for the first time since comparable data became available in 2004.
Among those, 34.1% were regular employees. up by 1.7 percentage points from the previous survey. Non-regular employees were 36.7 percent, up 1.2 percentage points. The ministry says that improvements in social systems seem to have contributed to the increase in mothers as regular workers. There's also growing momentum for both men and women to continue working while raising children. The ministry says it will continue to provide support for balancing childcare and work, and to promote women's participation in society.

And those are the top stories for this hour.
