US, UKRAINIAN, EUROPEAN DELEGATES TO DISCUSS PEACE PLAN
The leaders of the Group of Twenty have adopted a declaration at this year's summit, calling for the peaceful resolution of disputes and opposing the use of force to gain territory.
The two-day meeting opened on Saturday in the South African city of Johannesburg under the themes of solidarity, equality and sustainability.

This G20 Leaders' Summit has a responsibility not to allow the integrity and the credibility of the G20 to be weakened.

The leader said in the declaration that they affirmed their commitment to act in accordance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations for Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.
They also said that all states must refrain from the threat or use of force to seek to acquire territory against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of any state.
The declaration comes amid armed conflicts in parts of the world, such as Ukraine.
The question now is how to ensure its effectiveness with key figures absent from the summit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is not attending the gathering. He's the subject of an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court over alleged war crimes.
South Africa is a member of the court.
US President Donald Trump is also skipping the meeting, claiming that minority white people in South Africa are being persecuted.
Representatives from the United States, Ukraine and Europe are set to discuss a US-backed peace plan that is deemed to demand major concessions by Kyiv to Russia in order to end fighting.
Ukraine's presidential office announced on Saturday that delegates from the US, Ukraine, Britain, France and Germany will meet in Switzerland for talks on Sunday.
In South Africa, where the Group of 20 summit meeting has begun, the leaders from Europe and other countries said in a statement that the US-supported peace plan includes important elements that will be essential for a just and lasting peace, but added the draft is a basis which will require additional work.
The statement went on to say that the leaders are concerned by the proposed limitations on Ukraine's armed forces, which will leave Ukraine vulnerable to future attack.
Meanwhile, US President Trump has denied that the US-presented peace plan is his final offer.

It's your final offer to Ukraine.
00:03:03 話者 3
No, not my point. I would like to get to peace. It should have happened a long time ago.

Trump earlier set Thursday as the deadline for Ukraine to agree to the proposal.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is likely to present an alternative plan that includes factors reflecting Ukraine's stance.
COP30 ENDS WITHOUT ROAD MAP TO PHASE OUT FOSSIL FUELS
The UN climate change conference, COP30, ended on Saturday.
An adopted agreement document sets targets for financial assistance to developing countries.
But it does not address efforts to draw up a schedule to phase out fossil fuels.
The meeting started on November 10, and its duration was extended before participants adopted a modified document.
The text calls for efforts to at least triple the financing available by 2035 to help developing countries adapt to climate change.
The previous timetable in a draft agreement was by 2030.
At the meeting, opinions were split over efforts to draw up a schedule to phase out fossil fuels.
Colombia, together with European and other countries, demanded that the text address the subject.
The failure to include it may have come after taking into account the strong objections from oil-producing countries.
The chair nation, Brazil, announced its intention to create roadmaps to phase out fossil fuels on its own, an apparent effort to appease countries that were strongly urging its inclusion.

I like the ambition of the presidency on phasing out fossil, it of course would have been
better to have that in the main text.

ARMED GROUP TAKES OVER 300 STUDENTS FROM NIGERIA SCHOOL
In Nigeria, an armed group has attacked a Catholic boarding school and abducted over 300 students.
The Associated Press and other media outlets quote a local Christian group as saying that 303 schoolchildren and 12 teachers were abducted.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident on Friday in western Nigeria is the latest in a series of attacks targeting schools and churches across the country.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has canceled a trip to South Africa as the head of a country invited to participate in the Group of 20 summit.
US President Trump said earlier this month that many Christians are being killed in Nigeria.
He says if the Nigerian government fails to address the issue, the US could take military action.
CLASSMATES OF JAPANESE ABDUCTEE MEGUMI MEET HER MOTHER
Former classmates of a Japanese abductee to North Korea, Yokota Megumi, have offered encouragement to her mother, Sakie.
Megumi was abducted by North Korean agents when she was a first-year junior high school student in Niigata City on the Sea of Japan coast.
Megumi's former classmates have been gathering to comfort Sakie twice a year since 2023.
On Saturday, eight of them took part in a gathering in Kawasaki City, near Tokyo.

I hope she will come back as soon as possible.
