US President Donald Trump says he suspended peace talks with Taliban after the Afghan insurgent group killed 12 people, including a US soldier, in a car bomb attack on Thursday in Kabul.
Washington said last Monday that negotiators from both sides had agreed in principle on a draft peace accord.
Trump tweeted on Saturday that he was also canceling a meeting with Taliban leaders and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at Camp David, outside Washington, on Sunday.
Trump wrote that "if the Taliban cannot agree to a ceasefire during these very important peace talks, and would even kill 12 innocent people, then they probably don't have the power to negotiate a meaningful agreement anyway."

Japan's transport ministry will tighten security checks for all passengers at the country's airports ahead major sport events.
The Rugby World Cup will open on September 20, and the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics will open next summer.
Currently, pre-boarding inspections for domestic flight passengers involve only a check of carry-on luggage.
But beginning this Friday, all domestic flight passengers will be required to take off their jackets or coats for screening, as has been required of international flight passengers. All passengers will also need to remove shoes that cover their ankles for X-ray checks.
In addition to random body checks, a new procedure will use special paper to check for traces of explosives on passengers.
A ministry official urges passengers to arrive at airports well in advance, as the new security measures may require more time.
