Japan's top tariff negotiator is making arrangements to visit the US again later this week for another round of trade talks. The two sides are aiming for progress ahead of the expected meeting between their leaders next month at the G7 summit.

The two leaders will be coming together at the summit. So for me as a negotiator, it would be very desirable if some kind of agreement could be reached at that time.

Visitors flocked to a theme park in western Japan on Sunday for a last chance to get a direct close-up look at 4 giant pandas that are said to be transferred to China. Sunday is the last day visitors can see the pandas outdoors.
The four female pandas of the park in the town of Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, are scheduled to be sent to China on June 28th, as the contract of a joint project is set to expire in August.

We came to see the pandas. My child will never forget.

I was so close to the pandas that I could actually hear them munching bamboo.

From Monday, the pandas will be on view to the public behind glass and enclosed indoor facilities. Visitors can see them through Friday, June 27, one day before the pandas' scheduled departure.

Police dogs had their tracking skills tested during training session held on Saturday north of Tokyo. They practice searching for crime suspects and missing people. Two police dogs and six others raised by private sector trainers took part in Maebashi City, Guma Prefecture. The 8K nines and their handlers practice searching for missing people and crime suspects. The dogs focused their sensory receptors on the scent of a suspect as they followed the trail across an asphalt surface.
When a dog located an item belonging to a missing person it was tracking, they assumed a prone position to alert the trainer.

Overall, I think the dogs have greatly improved their tracking skills and have increased confidence. I hope they will be able to save. Even just one person.

Prefectural police say that last year, K9 search units were mobilized more than 230 times. And this year as well, they are continuing to help locate missing persons.

And here's the three-day weatherforecast.

And that's it for this hour on NHK Newsline. I'm Yuko Fukushima. Thanks for joining us.
