PAKISTAN-AFGHANISTAN PEACE TALKS COLLAPSE
Officials from Pakistan and Afghanistan's interim Taliban government say their peace talks have collapsed.
The latest round of negotiations on achieving a lasting peace began in Istanbul last Thursday.
A Taliban spokesperson posted a statement on Saturday.
Jabiullah Mujahid criticized the Pakistani side for trying to force Afghanistan to assume all the responsibility for Pakistan's internal security.
Pakistan's defense minister, Hawaja Asif, spoke to local media outlets on Friday evening.
He said the talks had collapsed because the Afghan delegation was not ready to sign a written agreement.
Pakistani and Afghan forces exchanged gunfire near the border on Thursday as the peace talks were taking place.
Violent clashes have broken out earlier in the border areas between Pakistani troops combating cross-border terrorism and the Afghan forces opposing them.
On October 19, the two sides agreed to implement a ceasefire immediately.
Qatar and Turkey mediated those talks.
Pakistan and Afghanistan have both said they will maintain the ceasefire.
But each side has noted that it will respond decisively if the other one attacks.

JAPANESE COPYRIGHT HOLDERS ADDRESS AI ISSUES
Major publishing houses and creators association in Japan have issued a joint statement calling on US tech company OpenAI to address copyright infringement issues.
They're concerned by its Sora2 generative artificial intelligence model.
They found AI videos online of Japanese anime and characters that were made using the system.
In the statement, a total of 19 groups, including publishers and the Japan Cartoonists Association, confirmed that they will not tolerate copyright infringement.
They urged AI-related firms to gain the necessary consent from copyright holders and to take other measures.
Other demands include ensuring the transparency of data used for AI learning and awarding appropriate compensation to rights holders.
The statement says the current system in which copyright holders need to opt out of having their work appear in content leads to the violation of rights.

NARA HOLDS DEER ANTLER TRIMMING RITUAL
People have flocked to Japan's ancient capital of Nara to observe the autumn ritual of trimming the antlers of deer.
The tradition has been passed down for about 350 years.
The annual event was held over the weekend at Kasugataisha Shrine, western Japan.
People in traditional happy coats chase the deer and hold them down.
The antlers have grown to about 50 centimeters and these are carefully cut off.
The antlers are trimmed to prevent male deer at Nala Park from harming people or each other during breeding season.
The park's freely roaming deer make it a popular tourist destination.

It was really fun. It's such a valuable experience. Our family comes every year and the kids enjoy it. I'm glad we came again this year.

Organizers say male deer grow new antlers every year, and by this time of year, they have lost nerves and blood vessels so can be cut off without pain.
AUTUMN LEAVES REACH PEAK BEAUTY IN NAGASAKI
Autumn foliage season has arrived in Kyushu, southwestern Japan.
The colors are peaking in areas including Mount Myokendake in Nagasaki Prefecture.
Spectacular bursts of red and orange began appearing in late October on the 1,300-meter mountain in Unzen City.
Chilly weather over the past few days has helped leaves on maple and other trees turn vibrant colors.
Passengers riding a ropeway to the top photographed leaves that deepened in hue as they climbed.
One visitor said she really felt the season's arrival when she saw the changing leaves for the first time this year.
The company operating the ropeway says this year's fall colors came late due to warmer temperatures earlier in the season.
The leaves finally reached their best on Saturday.

It's such a beautiful view. I couldn't come here without my daughter's support.
I had a great time.

The colors are expected to last in the area until around the 20th of this month.
Those were the stories for this hour.
