North Korea has released footage of a massive military parade it held earlier on Thursday.
South Korean media are reporting 50,000 people participated in the event in Pyongyang.
The North's state-run TV broadcast the event on its evening program.
Thousands of troops, tanks, and vehicles carrying weapons marched through the streets of the capital.
They marked the 70th anniversary of the founding of its military. It comes one day before the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
The timing of the parade has been panned by the United States and has been labelled ''threatening'' by the South.
The anniversary is typically observed in April, but Pyongyang moved it up last month to February 8th.

The US Vice President is heading to South Korea for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. On Thursday Mike Pence addressed American troops in Tokyo before departing for Seoul. The North Korean nuclear threat was a big portion of his speech.
Pence said, "Sadly despite our efforts over the decades, every step of the way North Korea has answered with willful deception, with broken promises and endless escalating provocations."
Pence also spoke about the regime's human rights abuses. He warned the North not to underestimate US military strength.
He said, "Our forces are ready and our nation is resolved. As the old book says a soldier does not bear the sword in vain. Let the world know, we will defeat any attack and meet any use of conventional or nuclear weapons with a response rapid, overwhelming and effective."
The speech comes a day after Pence met with Japan's prime minister and reaffirmed the alliance between countries. He also said the US is set to unveil the strongest sanctions yet against the North.
Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have eased with Pyongyang's decision to participate in the Olympic Games, but Pence vowed to continue intensifying maximum pressure.
He's scheduled to hold talks with South Korea's president in Seoul later in the day.

North Korea has told South Korea that its high-level delegation will arrive on Friday -- the same day as the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
South Korea's Unification Ministry said on Thursday that it was informed that a plane carrying the delegation will arrive at Incheon Airport near Seoul at 1:30 on Friday afternoon.
North Korea plans to send the high-level delegation led by the president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Kim Yong Nam.
The delegation includes Kim Jong Un's younger sister Kim Yo Jong, who is the first vice director of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party.
Her trip would be the first official visit to the South by a member of the Kim family.
It would also mark the first air trip by a North Korean delegation since October 2014 when the delegation attended the closing ceremony of the Asian Games in Incheon.

Japan's Financial Services Agency is preparing to probe dozens of cryptocurrency exchanges after a massive attack by hackers on one of the exchanges in the country.
Last Friday, the financial watchdog entered the offices of a Tokyo-based exchange, Coincheck, after hackers allegedly stole its NEM units worth more than 500 million dollars.
The FSA has been trying to find out how the virtual heist took place, and is also trying to determine if the exchange has enough money to repay afflicted customers.
Now, the agency is to carry out on-site inspections at other cryptocurrency exchanges to check if sufficient measures are in place to protect their computer systems and customers' holdings.
The planned checks on some firms come after the agency asked 31 exchange operators to report on their financial management and security measures.

A data-falsification scandal involving Mitsubishi Materials appears to be widening. Executives at the Japanese metal-manufacturer say they've found more tampering with quality-control data at their subsidiaries.
The companies implicated are Mitsubishi Aluminum, car parts maker Diamet, and Tachibana Metal Manufacturing.
The news comes on the heels of revelations in November that Mitsubishi Aluminum and 2 other subsidiaries had fixed inspection figures.
Officials say the firms in this latest instance misled their customers by altering figures for size and strength of their goods.
They say they're now conducting safety checks.
Tachibana made such shipments to 307 companies. Mitsubishi Aluminum, to 115, and Diamet, to 73.

Japan has recorded its biggest annual current account surplus in 10 years. Government officials say, in 2017, the figure climbed to 21.8 trillion yen or a little over 200 billion dollars.
The data gauges the country's trade and investment with the rest of the world.
One factor was an increase in the primary income account. That's a measure of earnings from overseas investments.
The figure there came in at a surplus of 180 billion dollars due to strong performances by subsidiary firms overseas.
The travel account was also in the black. Spending by tourists pushed that up to a record high surplus of 16 billion dollars.
The trade surplus came in at 45 billion dollars.
Exports of vehicles and chip-making machines were strong.
But rising crude oil prices boosted the value of imports. That caused the surplus to shrink by more than 5 billion dollars from the year before.
