The Beijing Winter Paralympics will open on Friday evening without athletes from Russia and Belarus.
The opening ceremony will start at 8 p.m. local time inside the National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest. The Games will run for 10 days through March 13, and 78 events will be held in six sports.
The International Paralympic Committee, or IPC, on Thursday decided to ban athletes from the Russian Paralympic Committee and Belarus amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The IPC reversed its initial decision, made the day before, that the athletes could take part only as neutrals, following strong criticism from many countries.
A total of 83 athletes have been excluded from the Games, forcing changes to event schedules.
Observers say the Beijing Games will serve as an opportunity for people to consider the significance of the Paralympics and the preciousness of peace.
Regarding coronavirus measures, a so-called "bubble" system has been implemented in which Games-related personnel are physically separated from the public to prevent the virus from spreading. The system was first adopted at the Tokyo Games last year.
Beijing hosted the summer Games in 2008. No other city has hosted both summer and winter Games.

The Japanese government is arranging to provide relief supplies to people in Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.
It is considering sending the supplies using a government plane.
As a gesture of unity with Ukraine, Prime Minister Kishida Fumio hopes to deliver emergency humanitarian assistance worth 100 million dollars in cooperation with international agencies.
Kishida told a news conference on Thursday that offering financial aid is important, but sending goods is also an option.
He said the government will assess the situation in Ukraine when considering what sort of humanitarian support to provide, such as medicine.
The first batch of supplies will likely contain goods owned by the Self-Defense Forces, including emergency food, hygiene products and warm clothing.
The government is also studying whether it can send bullet-proof vests.
It is considering delivering the supplies to Ukraine's neighbor Poland using an SDF-operated plane.
Cabinet ministers are expected to finalize the plan soon.

The leaders of Japan, the United States, Australia and India have discussed the Russian invasion of Ukraine, agreeing that any unilateral change of status quo by force in the Indo-Pacific region is unacceptable.
The four countries are known as the "Quad" partnership. Their leaders -- Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi -- held a teleconference on Thursday.
During the talks, Kishida said the Russian aggression against Ukraine represents an attempt to change the status quo by force. He said he severely condemns the action, as it destabilizes the foundation of international order.
Kishida also said Japan has moved swiftly to impose strong sanctions against Russia in close coordination with the international community, including the Group of Seven nations. He added that Japan has been working to support Ukraine.
The leaders agreed they will promote further efforts to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific.
They agreed to hold an in-person Quad summit in Tokyo within several months, and will work together to make the meeting a success.
