Heavy rains in Indonesia and neighboring East Timor have triggered landslides and mud flows, leaving more than 100 people dead.
Many houses are buried in mud or have been washed away by floods. The deputy governor of Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province says more than 80 people have died and at least 110 others are missing. Strong winds are hampering rescue operations.
In East Timor, more than 20 people have been killed.
Torrential rains are forecast to continue in the regions for the next few days. Authorities fear further damage.

A court in Taiwan has determined that the truck driver involved in a recent fatal train derailment should be detained for two months, as requested by prosecutors.
The court made the decision on Sunday night after examining the results of his questioning and evidence presented by investigators. It said he may destroy evidence and is suspected of having caused death by negligence.
The accident occurred in the eastern county of Hualien on Friday, leaving 50 people dead and more than 200 others injured.
The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board, an independent body to look into accidents, has been analyzing footage taken by the train's on-board camera.
Local media say the TTSB found that the truck had slid down a slope onto the tracks before the train crashed into it.
Investigators suspect that the truck's parking brake may have been broken or improperly engaged. The truck driver was involved in work to enhance the slope's safety.

Japan's Defense Ministry said a Chinese aircraft carrier has sailed through waters between two islands in Okinawa Prefecture, southwestern Japan. This is the first confirmed passage through the area by a Chinese carrier since last April.
The ministry said the Maritime Self-Defense Force confirmed that the Liaoning, accompanied by five other vessels, made the transit from Saturday to Sunday.
It said the ships entered from the East China Sea, and passed between Okinawa's main island and Miyakojima Island, before entering the Pacific Ocean.
The ministry said the vessels did not violate Japanese territorial waters, and that no aircraft took off or landed on the carrier.
This is the sixth time that a Chinese carrier has been confirmed to sail through the waters between the two islands.
The five ships accompanying the carrier included a replenishment vessel, and a Renhai-Class missile destroyer. The state-of-the-art destroyer was found to have navigated in waters near Japan for the first time last month.
Ministry sources said the carrier group may remain at sea for some time to conduct a drill.
The ministry is analyzing the purpose of the navigation. It is also maintaining its close surveillance, citing the Chinese military's increased activity in open seas.

South Korea and China have agreed to ramp up their efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong met his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on Saturday. Chung is in China on his first trip abroad since assuming his post in February.
Chung said he expects Beijing to play a constructive role in the peace process on the Korean Peninsula.
China's Foreign Ministry says Beijing and Seoul have agreed to hold vice-ministerial talks on diplomacy and security within the next few months.
The South Korean side says the ministers also agreed to make arrangements for Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit South Korea.
The meeting between the foreign ministers is believed to be part of China's push to counter the US by strengthening its ties with South Korea, an ally of Washington.
China appears to be wary of what is seen as a US-led "containment strategy" in the Indo-Pacific region directed at Beijing.

The Philippines and China are trading accusations over the presence of Chinese fishing vessels in the Philippine's exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea.
Manila lodged a protest with Beijing after about 220 vessels were found moored 300 kilometers west of Palawan Island in early March. China argued that the vessels were there to avoid rough weather.
But the Philippine defense department issued a statement on Saturday under the name of defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana, saying that 44 Chinese vessels are still staying there. The statement also said, "I am no fool. The weather has been good so far, so they have no other reason to stay there. These vessels should be on their way out."
In response, the Chinese Embassy in Manila wrote on Facebook that the waters have been "a traditional fishing ground for Chinese fishermen for many years."
It urged the Philippines to "avoid any unprofessional remarks which may further fan irrational emotions."
The Philippine defense department issued another statement on Sunday, criticizing the Chinese side for disregarding international law.
The statement said China's claim over the waters was "flatly and categorically rejected by the arbitral tribunal."
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has not addressed the sovereignty dispute, as he wants to maintain economic ties with China.
It's rare for his government to mention arbitration that had been filed before he took office.

The families of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korea have issued a new message for the country's leader, Kim Jong Un, in the hope of persuading him to allow the abductees to return home.
Eighty-two-year-old Iizuka Shigeo, who is a brother of abductee Taguchi Yaeko and heads a group formed by the abductees' relatives, said in a meeting on Saturday that they will never give up, despite constraints imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Participants shared a sense of urgency as abductees' relatives are aging, saying there is not much time left.
Last month marked the 24th anniversary of the founding of the group, but this is only the second time it has sent a message to Kim. The first was in 2019.
The message says the relatives remain determined not to hinder the process of normalizing Japan-North Korea relations by asking the abductees about the country's secrets, if all of them are returned at once.
The message also touches upon the passing of Arimoto Kayoko and Yokota Shigeru, who played a central role in the group from its founding. It contains text saying "the message has a deadline," and strongly urges Kim to return the abductees while their parents' generation is well.
Unlike the previous message, it also calls on the North to accept a bilateral summit.
The group adopted a plan of action, and agreed to urge Japan's government to negotiate with the North without compromising, with the aim of holding a summit soon and bringing back all the abductees at one time.

Myanmar's military continued severe crackdowns on anti-coup protests on Saturday. A local human rights group says four people were killed when security forces opened fire on protesters in the central town of Monywa and elsewhere.
The group says that as of Saturday, the death toll had risen to 557 since the February 1 coup.
Employees of foreign companies who were not participating in protests have become involved in the military crackdowns.
On Wednesday, a woman Myanmarese employee of a South Korean bank was killed when security forces shot at the bank's vehicle she was in.
Local media outlet Myanmar Now says five citizens were taken into custody by "plainclothes officers" after they were interviewed by or had contact with a CNN crew at a market in the country's largest city, Yangon. The detentions took place shortly after the US journalists left the market.
The military has detained reporters covering demonstrations and people who have spoken to journalists in an apparent effort to silence public opinion.

A Japanese swimmer who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics just months after completing cancer treatment is encouraging people who are fighting the same disease.
Ikee Rikako took top place Sunday in the women's 100-meter butterfly final at Japan's national championships --- her first in 3 years.
The 20-year-old swimming star was diagnosed with leukemia in February 2019. She returned to competition in August last year following a 10-month hospital stay.
The athlete had been aiming for the 2024 Paris games --- but will now go for gold in the 400-meter medley relay this summer.
The Japan Marrow Donor Program celebrated Ikee's achievement, commenting on Twitter it was "overwhelmed" and hoped her success would deepen understanding of the illness and encourage people to donate their bone marrow.
The program's Kojima Masaru said, "I think this news gave hope to the patients fighting this illness, and to their families and others.
The bone marrow bank is a system to register people willing to donate bone marrow for transplants, which are effective in treating leukemia and other diseases.
