Iran's state media has reported that hardline conservative Ebrahim Raisi has been assured of victory in the country's presidential election.
Iranians cast their ballots on Friday to pick a replacement for outgoing President Hassan Rouhani.
Four candidates, including Raisi and reformist former central bank governor Abdolnasser Hemmati, were in the running.
Iran's interior ministry said that with about 90 percent of votes counted as of 11 a.m. on Saturday, Raisi had garnered 17.8 million votes, while the runner-up candidate was trailing with 3.3 million votes.
The country's state media reported that Raisi has been assured of victory after winning over 60 percent of the ballots.
Raisi, a well-known Islamic law scholar who serves as judiciary chief, won support from religious circles and conservative voters. Prominent moderates and reform-minded figures had been disqualified in pre-election screening.
Raisi is expected to bring in the first anti-US conservative hardline administration in eight years, since the administration of former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Raisi has indicated that he would maintain the nuclear agreement with world powers, from which the administration of former US president Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew in 2018.
Negotiations are now underway for the United States to rejoin the pact. However, Raisi has vowed not to make any easy concessions.
The US has imposed sanctions on Raisi for his alleged role in crackdowns on anti-government demonstrations.
Observers say Rouhani's policy of seeking dialogue with the West will most likely be reviewed, making it even more difficult for Tehran and Washington to mend ties.

The UN General Assembly has condemned Myanmar's military for violence against civilians and called for an arms embargo on the country.
The resolution was adopted on Friday with the support of 119 countries.
It urges the military government to release all political detainees, including Aung San Suu Kyi, and immediately stop violence against peaceful protesters.
The military has been cracking down on protesters since February's coup. A human rights group says that a total of 870 people had been killed as of Friday.
The resolution is not legally binding. Thirty-six countries, including China and Russia, that are reluctant to put pressure on Myanmar abstained from the vote.
Thailand and Brunei, both members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, also abstained.
Myanmar's UN Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun said after the vote that no country should support the military. He was fired by the military for voicing his opposition to the coup.

NHK has learned that Japanese immigration authorities are coordinating to grant refugee status to a member of Myanmar's national soccer team if he applies for asylum.
Pyae Lyan Aung traveled to Japan for a World Cup qualifier last month. But he refused to fly back with his team members on Wednesday. He has expressed intent to seek political asylum.
Pyae Lyan Aung made a three-finger salute before the qualifier match against Japan to protest the Myanmar military's crackdown on civilians.
Officials at Japan's Immigration Services Agency believe the player may face persecution if he returns home, as his gesture has been widely reported by the media.
Under its emergency measures adopted last month, the agency is prioritizing people from Myanmar in its screening of asylum requests, and is granting residency status even when their bids are rejected.
Last year, Japan recognized 47 people as refugees, based on an international convention to protect foreign nationals who could face persecution back home due to race, political beliefs and other factors.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees says a record 82.4 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide in 2020 due to conflict, persecution and other causes.
The figure, which includes refugees, internally displaced people and asylum seekers, is up 2.9 million from a year earlier. It was published in a report on Friday, ahead of World Refugee Day on Sunday.
The conflict in Syria resulted in the most refugees, at about 6.7 million. About 4 million people fled Venezuela due to political turmoil, and about 1.1 million Rohingya Muslims fled Myanmar to neighboring Bangladesh.
The UNHCR says countries including Turkey and Colombia are being burdened with large numbers of refugees. It stresses the need for more international support.

A survey of school nurses in Japan shows that the coronavirus pandemic has adversely affected the health of students at 40 percent of elementary, junior and senior high schools.
The Japanese Medical and Dental Practitioners for the Improvement of Medical Care conducted the survey. Nurses at about 4,900 schools, or 20 percent of the nationwide total, replied based on the results of checkups conducted in fiscal 2020.
Nurses at 40 percent of these schools said the spread of the virus had an impact on children.
The survey allowed for multiple answers. Forty-six percent of respondents said they saw an increase in the number of obese children. Thirty-six percent said they saw an increase in children suffering from a decline in eyesight.
The nurses cited poor dietary habits and an increase in the amount of time spent gaming as some of the contributing factors.
Nurses at 14 percent of the schools said there was an increase in the number of children with dental problems.
Hashimoto Kenichi, a board member of the Medical Association, Tokyo Dental Insurance, took part in the survey. He said children with poor health were often neglected at home, or faced other domestic problems.
He said the health of those children appears to have worsened during the pandemic, as less support was available with schools closed. He called for a speedy response.

A group of researchers says it expects the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine to work against the Gamma variant, first identified in Brazil.
The group led by Kawaoka Yoshihiro, project professor at the University of Tokyo's Institute of Medical Science, published the study in a US science journal.
The researchers gave the Gamma variant to hamsters that were previously infected with the original coronavirus. They found trace amounts of the variant in the hamsters' noses three days later, but none on the sixth day.
With hamsters that had no history of the coronavirus, the researchers detected the variant even on the sixth day.
The group also confirmed that people who have received the Pfizer vaccine carry antibodies that are almost as effective against the variant as the original virus.
The group said the findings provide key information for assessing the risk of the Gamma variant.
Professor Kawaoka said that though the group found the vaccine to be effective against the Gamma variant, people should still follow basic anti-infection measures to protect themselves.

China's trade with North Korea plummeted nearly 90 percent in May from the previous month.
It comes after Pyongyang is believed to have re-tightened its border controls due to the global spread of the Delta coronavirus variant first identified in India.
Chinese customs authorities say bilateral trade last month was valued at 3.46 million dollars, down 88.7 percent from April.
Trade between the two countries was worth just 1.75 million dollars in February.
North Korea appeared to ease controls on the flow of goods in March, when the figure grew to 14.28 million dollars, and in April, when it surged to more than 30 million dollars.
North Korea claims it has confirmed no coronavirus cases.
