North Korea has announced at inter-Korean talks that it will be sending an over 230-member cheering squad to the upcoming Winter Olympics in the South.
Wednesday's talks, taking place on the southern side of the Panmunjom truce village, are about the details of North Korea's participation in next month's PyeongChang Games.
Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung is leading South Korea's delegation in the vice-ministerial level talks.
The North's delegation is headed by Jon Jong Su, vice chairman of the Committee for Peaceful Reunification, a liaison organization for inter-Korean negotiations.
South Korea says the North announced the cheering squad will travel to Pyeongchang by land. The North also offered to send a team to the Paralympics in March.
The 2 sides are reportedly discussing the size of the North Korean team, the possible formation of a unified Korean women's ice hockey team, and a joint march at the opening ceremony.
The possible use of Masikryong ski resort in the east of North Korea, prepared under the instruction of leader Kim Jong Un, is also said to have been discussed.
Earlier in the week, the 2 sides agreed that North Korea will send a 140-member orchestra to perform during the Games.

The foreign ministers of Japan, the United States and South Korea have confirmed that the 3 countries will lead international efforts to maximize pressure on North Korea.
Japan's Foreign Minister Taro Kono met US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha on Tuesday in Vancouver, Canada. The meeting followed a 20-nation foreign ministerial conference in the city on the North's nuclear and missile programs.
They agreed that it is meaningful to have confirmed a policy at the conference to raise pressure on Pyongyang to the highest possible level.
They also agreed to step up their support to lead other countries to fully implement UN Security Council resolutions concerning North Korea, in addition to their leading role in international efforts to further squeeze the country in security, defense and other areas.
Later, Kono talked with Tillerson during a one-and-a-half-hour dinner meeting about a recent series of US military aircraft accidents in Okinawa.
Kono called for drastic measures to prevent a recurrence after expressing regret over and protesting the accidents.
Tillerson said it is regrettable that local residents feel worried, even though the US military helicopters involved cautiously made emergency landings. He also stressed that more efforts should be made for maintenance and safe operation of US military aircraft.

Japan's Foreign Minister Taro Kono has said that South Korea must steadily implement the 2015 agreement to finally and irreversibly resolve the issue of those referred to as comfort women.
Kono made the remarks during a meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha in Vancouver in western Canada on Tuesday.
Kang explained the South Korean government's new policy on the issue. President Moon Jae-in has described the deal as flawed.
Kang is thought to have said that Seoul will not seek renegotiation of the deal and additional measures, but that it welcomes a voluntary and sincere apology from Tokyo.
Kono responded that Japan can by no means accept a request for more measures and negotiations.
Kono also conveyed to Kang Tokyo's position that the issue of Korean laborers forced to work in Japan during the World War Two has been resolved.
He asked the South Korean government to appropriately deal with moves to build a statue symbolizing the workers in places, including the vicinity of a Japanese consulate.
The 2 ministers confirmed the need to exchange views on North Korea, based on the outcome of the ongoing inter-Korean dialogue.
They also agreed on the need to maximize pressure to compel North Korea to take action toward denuclearization.
Kang requested a visit by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to South Korea next month when it hosts the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Kono said Tokyo will consider the offer by taking into account Diet schedules and other matters.

The US military has deployed 3 types of strategic bombers to the Pacific island of Guam.
The US Pacific Air Forces announced on Tuesday that 6 nuclear-capable B-52 bombers and 300 personnel have been sent to Andersen Air Force Base.
Six B-1 bombers and 3 B-2 stealth bombers are already deployed at the base.
The B-52s will replace the B-1s in Guam, the US military's strategic foothold in the Asia-Pacific region.
The last time the 3 types of strategic bombers were deployed to Guam was August 2016.
The US military has described the latest move as showing responsibility toward its allies in the region.
The deployment is seen as the US demonstrating its deterrent capabilities against North Korea and China.

Japan is marking the 23rd anniversary of the Great Hanshin Earthquake that hit the western port city of Kobe and the surrounding areas.
The earthquake on January 17th, 1995, killed 6,434 people. The figure includes those who died of health problems related to their lives as evacuees.
In a park in Kobe, bamboo lanterns have been arranged to show the date of the earthquake.
Survivors and bereaved families lit the lanterns and offered silent prayers on Wednesday at 5:46 AM, the exact time the quake struck.
As of last November, about 32,000 survivors were living in public housing. More than half of them were 65 or older.
Local authorities have been sending caregivers to monitor the health of these elderly residents. But the fund that pays for this service is expected to run out of money soon.

The head of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons says the Japanese people should unite to urge their government to join the nuclear ban treaty. ICAN won last year's Nobel Peace Prize.
ICAN Executive Director Beatrice Fihn made the appeal on Tuesday in a lecture in Tokyo that was attended by about 200 people. She has visited Hiroshima and Nagasaki since she arrived in Japan last Thursday.
Fihn said that if citizens are united in one clear voice, it will be impossible for the Japanese government to ignore them. She said ICAN wants to use the energy, passion and hope of the Japanese people.
Fihn also mentioned last Saturday's false missile alert in Hawaii. She said mothers, fathers, sons and daughters said goodbye to their loved ones, and waited in terror.
A student who attended the lecture said people must raise their voices to change the Japanese government's policy.

Japan's Recruit Holdings says it will team up with Airbnb, the leading US tourist accommodation platform, to offer rental housing for travelers in Japan.
A Recruit subsidiary with a database of 6 million properties will give Airbnb information on those available for temporary stays. The US company will list the properties on its website.
Recruit officials say quite a few properties are left unoccupied for months at a time if they are not rented during the busy periods of March and September. That's when many students and workers move.
The officials say they will encourage owners and management companies to make unoccupied rooms available for temporary stays.
A new law effective from June sets rules on the use of private properties for tourist stays.
Other companies are getting into the market. Major lender Mizuho Bank has also started working with Airbnb.
IT giant Rakuten has ties with US and European accommodation businesses.
