Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui made the announcement to reporters on Thursday.
Abe is to visit China from Monday to Wednesday, and attend a trilateral summit including South Korea in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on Tuesday.
Sources say Abe and Xi will meet in Beijing on Monday. They're expected to discuss Xi's visit to Japan as a state guest next spring.
The Japan-China-South Korea summit will bring together Abe, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
Luo said the leaders will seek to enhance strategic communication and discuss how to develop trilateral cooperation in a broad range of fields.
He said they will also discuss accelerating negotiations for a trilateral free trade agreement, and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

Tokyo prosecutors have searched offices of a ruling party lawmaker in connection with a Chinese firm that is suspected of bringing undeclared cash into Japan.
The special investigative team raided offices of Tsukasa Akimoto, a Lower House member of the Liberal Democratic Party, in Tokyo on Thursday.
The Chinese firm is interested in entering Japan's integrated resort projects that will include casinos. People involved with the Chinese firm are suspected of bringing tens of thousands of dollars' worth of cash into Japan in violation of the foreign exchange act.
Prosecutors had earlier searched an office in Tokyo related to the Chinese firm, as well as the homes of two former aides of Akimoto, in connection with the case.
They had also questioned Akimoto on a voluntary basis.
Japan's Diet enacted a bill into law on integrated resorts, which include casinos, in July 2018.
Akimoto doubled as state minister of the Cabinet Office and Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism until October 2018, and was in charge of integrated resorts.
In August 2017, just before he was appointed state minister, Akimoto gave a keynote speech at a symposium on integrated resorts held in Okinawa, southern Japan. The Chinese firm's top executive also gave a speech at the same event.
Speaking to NHK on Saturday, Akimoto denied involvement in any wrong doing. He said all he can do is watch over the investigation.

The Bank of Japan has decided to keep its easing policy unchanged.
The central bank has judged there is no increased risk of a downturn in the domestic economy. It cited a "phase one" trade deal struck by the US and China.
The BOJ has also maintained its previous assessment of the economy after a hike in the consumption tax in October, pointing to moderate expansion.
It will continue to buy government bonds. The aim is to maintain the yield on the benchmark 10-year bond at around zero percent. As for short-term rates, the BOJ will maintain a negative interest rate.
A majority of the officials voted in favor of maintaining the policy.

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of northeastern Japan. It did not trigger a tsunami, but temporarily halted a train line.
The quake occurred at 3:21 p.m. local time on Thursday. It registered up to 5 minus on Japan's seismic intensity scale of seven.
The quake was centered off the coast of Aomori Prefecture, at an estimated depth of 50 kilometers.
No damage has been reported at nuclear facilities in the area.
Some trains stopped in the underwater tunnel linking the main islands of Honshu and Hokkaido. But they resumed operations soon after.
The Meteorological Agency is warning that more earthquakes are possible.
Japan Meteorological Agency official Masaki Nakamura said, " People in the areas that experienced strong tremors are advised to be on alert for a possible quake up to 5 lower intensity over the next week or so."
The official is warning that the quake may have increased the risk of landslides.

The US House of Representatives has voted to impeach President Donald Trump. The case will now shift to the Senate, where a trial to decide whether to remove him from office is expected early next year.
On Wednesday the Democratic-led House debated two articles of impeachment that were approved by the House Judiciary Committee.
The articles charged the president with abuse of power for pressuring Ukraine for personal political gain, and obstructing Congress by blocking investigations into his conduct.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, "The president's reckless activities necessitated us our having introduced the articles of impeachment. Right now, the president is impeached."
Trump has maintained he did nothing wrong, referring earlier to the proceedings on Twitter as an "assault on America."
He spoke at a rally for supporters in Michigan shortly before the vote results were known.
Trump said, "It doesn't really feel like we're being impeached. The country's doing better than ever before, we did nothing wrong. We did nothing wrong. And we have tremendous support in the republican party like we've never had before."
Trump is the third president in US history to be impeached. But no president has ever been removed from office as a direct result of impeachment.
A two-thirds majority is required to convict and oust the president. With the Republicans holding a majority of the chamber, the president is widely expected to be acquitted.

The US Congress has passed legislation to impose additional sanctions on foreign banks that deal with North Korea.
The US Senate on Tuesday approved a broad defense spending bill for fiscal 2020, the National Defense Authorization Act. It includes an act that mandates sanctions on banks and companies that engage in financial transactions with North Korea. The sanctions are seen as specifically targeting the Chinese banks that North Korea is believed to be using.
The group of lawmakers who proposed the legislation held a news conference on Wednesday. Senator Chris Van Hollen expressed concern about the increasing provocations by North Korea in recent months.
He stressed the need for the US to step up pressure on the North, saying the current strategy is not working. He criticized a number of countries, especially China, for having loosened their enforcement of sanctions on North Korean banks and businesses.
The Democratic senator urged the Trump administration to impose more sanctions with the new legislation.
The sanctions act is named after Otto Warmbier, an American student who died in the US after being detained in North Korea for more than a year.
Warmbier's parents were at the news conference. His mother, Cindy, said in a message to North Korea that "People matter, and Otto matters." She added, "We will never let you forget our son."

Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen has stressed the need for legislation to prevent China from meddling in the island's affairs.
Taiwan is set to hold its presidential election on January 11. Tsai, a member of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, is seeking reelection.
She took part in the first televised platform presentation on Wednesday evening with her two rivals -- Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu of the main opposition Nationalist Party and James Soong, head of the People First Party.
Tsai, who distances herself from China, warned that China has made its way into Taiwanese society, dividing it, spreading fake news and increasing its influence in the region.
Han, who favors closer ties with China, called for a change of government, noting that the leadership must strive to keep Taiwan safe, let its people have money, and not endanger the island and make its people poor.
Latest polls show Tsai far ahead of her challengers, backed by a growing wariness toward China among voters.

Hundreds of people took part in drills in Tokyo on Thursday to prepare for a possible mega-earthquake striking the capital during next year's Olympics and Paralympics.
The exercise had about 650 participants, including Tokyo Metropolitan Government officials, local police and firefighters.
The drills were based on the scenario of a magnitude 7.3 quake occurring directly beneath Tokyo on the morning of July 26 next year. Olympic events are scheduled to be held on that day at 20 sites in the Japanese capital.
At the Ariake Gymnastics Center in Tokyo's waterfront area, announcements in English and Japanese urged the participants to stay calm and follow instructions.
Firefighters gave aid to the injured on the second floor and security guards helped people to evacuate.
A first-aid station was set up on the first floor. Doctors and other medical staff used a process known as "triage" to decide who needed urgent treatment.
The drill participants were evacuated to a nearby park and given bottles of water as a precaution against heatstroke.

Robots designed to help with household chores are being featured at a trade show in Tokyo, along with drones and industrial robots.
The biennial International Robot Exhibition is underway at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center through Saturday.
More than 600 businesses and research institutions are showing cutting-edge technologies under the theme "The way towards a friendlier society, bridged by robots."
A Tokyo maker is showing a robot for clearing tables. It has a camera to capture images of cups and dishes, an AI system to analyze them and arms to grasp them and put them away.
Other featured robots include one that folds laundry and a vehicle for delivering daily necessities to elderly people and others who have difficulty going out to shop.
A visitor in his 50s said it was fun to see how robots can help people in their daily lives. He said the demonstrations showed how humans and robots could live together in the future.

Industry analysts in Japan predict that in 2020, output by electronics and IT firms worldwide will top 3 trillion dollars for the first time.
They say much of that growth will come from investment in next-generation 5G communication networks.
The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association also estimates production this year will amount to 2.92 trillion dollars.
That's a record high, but it's only up one percent from last year, partly because of the impact of the US-China trade dispute.
The association predicts output will rise by 5 percent to 3.08 trillion dollars in 2020 as 5G services expand globally.
Looking beyond 2020, the group expects the 5G market will continue to grow, and that by 2030 it will be worth 1.5 trillion dollars.

Japanese police have referred a teenager to prosecutors on suspicion of illegally accessing a school server to alter his grades.
Police say the third-year student at a junior high school in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, obtained the password for the server from a tablet used by his teachers.
They say a smartphone app was used to alter the data in September and October.
They quote the boy as saying he wanted to impress his family with good grades.
