A French lawyer who has been in touch with Carlos Ghosn since his escape from Japan says the former Nissan Motor chairman appears to be ready for a fight.
Francois Zimeray, who is representing Ghosn's family, spoke with NHK via an online video phone on Thursday.
Zimeray said he spoke with Ghosn after he arrived in Lebanon on Monday after skipping bail in Japan, where he has been awaiting trial for alleged financial misconduct.
In reference to a planned news conference by Ghosn next week, the lawyer said his client is eager to answer all questions clearly and give explanations in person.
Zimeray indicated that Ghosn may use the occasion to criticize Japan's judicial system.
The lawyer said he believes Ghosn decided to leave Japan after losing trust in the country's judiciary.
Ghosn has insisted in a statement that he fled to Lebanon to escape what he called Japan's "rigged" justice system. He was banned from traveling overseas as one of his bail conditions.

Lebanon's caretaker justice minister says his country has received an international wanted notice for former Nissan Motor chairman Carlos Ghosn from Interpol.
Ghosn is believed to have arrived in Lebanon on Monday via Turkey after skipping bail in Japan, where he has been indicted on charges of financial misconduct.
Albert Aziz Serhan said, "Authorities will respond to the request from Interpol based on law and they expect to question Mr. Ghosn.
The minister added Ghosn entered Lebanon with legitimate documentation, and airport security officials have confirmed his travel documents were in order.
Japan and Lebanon do not have an extradition treaty. The minister said they will cooperate with the Japanese government based on Lebanese law, but did not clearly refer to the extradition of Ghosn.
Meanwhile, Ghosn issued a statement through his press representative on Thursday, US time.
The statement reads: "There has been speculation in the media that my wife Carole, and other members of my family played a role in my departure from Japan." It adds: "All such speculation is inaccurate and false."
Investigative sources say surveillance video shows Ghosn leaving his home in central Tokyo alone shortly before his departure from Japan.
They say the footage was taken by a camera at the residence around noon on Sunday.
The sources say the camera did not capture any other suspicious persons entering or leaving the home around the time Ghosn came out. They say the camera did not show him returning home.
Investigations are going on in Turkey. Ghosn is believed to have arrived in Beirut on a private jet from Turkey. The local police have detained seven people. Four of them are pilots. They are suspected of involvement in the operation of the private jet.

Latest reports suggest that some members of the Lebanese government may have known about former Nissan Motor chairman Carlos Ghosn's travel arrangements to the country.
Lebanese security officials say a person thought to be Ghosn entered the country through a VIP gate and was met by a government official in a car.
This suggests some sources inside the Lebanese government knew in advance about Ghosn's arrival.
Some local media outlets have reported that Ghosn met President Michel Aoun unofficially after his arrival in the country, but the president's office denies it.
Caretaker justice minister Albert Aziz Serhan strongly denied reports that his government helped Ghosn. Serhan told NHK that the reports lack accuracy and do not deserve consideration.
The Lebanese government says Ghosn entered the country legally. As Interpol has issued an international wanted notice for Ghosn, officials say they will question Ghosn and conduct any necessary investigation.
Ghosn arrived in Lebanon on Monday after skipping bail in Japan, where he has been indicted on charges of financial misconduct. He stopped in Turkey before flying on to Lebanon.
Ghosn was banned from traveling overseas as one of his bail conditions. He insists he fled to escape injustice under what he called a "rigged Japanese justice system."

A senior commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been killed in a US airstrike on the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Iraqi state television reported on Friday that General Qassem Soleimani was among those killed in an attack on his convoy near Baghdad Airport.
The US Department of Defense issued a statement late Thursday saying, "At the direction of the president, the US military has taken decisive defensive action to protect US personnel abroad by killing Qassem Soleimani."
Soleimani was the commander of the elite Quds Force, a special forces brigade within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responsible for Iran's extra-territorial military operations.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has suggested retaliatory measures against the United States.
Khamenei said on Friday that the assassination of General Soleimani would double the motivation of the resistance against the United States. He also said "severe retaliation awaits those who killed Soleimani."

US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper told reporters on Thursday that Iran or Iran-backed forces may be planning further attacks and the United States might have to take preemptive action.
He said if the US gets word of, or other indications of attacks, it will take preemptive action to protect American forces and American lives.
The US military carried out air strikes against sites in Iraq and Syria connected to the Teheran-backed Kataib Hezbollah militant group late December.
The US says the action was in response to attacks that killed a US civilian and wounded US soldiers in Iraq.
Violent protests against the US embassy in Baghdad ensued on Tuesday and Wednesday, damaging the compound.
Washington announced on Tuesday that around 750 soldiers will be dispatched immediately to the Middle East and that more military personnel may be deployed.

The South Korean government says the country has achieved stable domestic supply of a high-tech material. The substance is one of three products subject to Japan's tightened export controls.
The Trade, Industry and Energy Ministry made the announcement on Thursday.
It says a South Korean chemical maker expanded its production volume of high-purity hydrofluoric acid.
Minister Sung Yun-mo said this is the first achievement of domestic self-reliance accomplished through the cooperation between business and government in response to Japan's export regulation of three major materials.
The ministry said other companies have also completed factories related to some of the regulated materials.
Hydrofluoric acid is the aqueous form of hydrogen fluoride, one of the three materials on which Japan tightened its export controls in July. After Tokyo's move, the administration of South Korean President Moon Jae-in launched plans to promote domestic production of such materials.
Tokyo and Seoul plan to continue dialogue on Japan's stricter export controls and other pending issues. But analysts say South Korea may change its approach if the country can achieve a stable domestic supply of the materials.

Hong Kong police say they arrested 420 people during anti-government protests on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Police told a news conference on Thursday that most of those arrested were demonstrating in central Hong Kong Island on Wednesday. They said the people arrested ranged in age from 12 to 81.
Police suspect that the protesters were participating in an illegal assembly. They say the protesters remained on the street after police ordered organizers to call off the march earlier than planned following acts of vandalism.
Police say vandalism and arson were carried out repeatedly at bank branches and restaurants during the two days of protests. The police are calling on people to stop the violence.
Public criticism of the mass arrests has been growing. Critics say police have arrested peaceful demonstrators and people who had nothing to do with the protests.
The anti-government mass protests in Hong Kong have continued for nearly seven months.

Turkey's parliament has passed a bill that allows troop deployment in Libya to support the UN-recognized interim government in Tripoli.
The parliament on Thursday voted in favor of the legislation submitted by the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The government said the bill was an important step toward protecting Turkey's interests in the region.
Egypt's foreign ministry issued a statement, saying Turkey's military dispatch will have a negative impact on the stability of the region. Egypt backs forces led by General Khalifa Haftar in Libya's east.
Haftar's forces have been intensifying their offensive against the interim government in the country's west since last month.
Analysts say Egypt and other nations may intervene militarily in Libya if Turkey deploys troops in the North African nation.
Libya has been divided since the collapse of the authoritarian government of Muammar al-Qadhafi during the 2011 Arab Spring pro-democracy movement.

Israel has agreed a deal with Greece and Cyprus to build a pipeline to carry natural gas from offshore deposits across the eastern Mediterranean to Europe.
The three countries signed the deal in the Greek capital of Athens on Thursday.
The project is aimed at providing gas extracted by Israel to European countries, which expect the project to help diversify energy sources as they try to reduce their reliance on supplies of gas from Russia.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country is set to become an energy powerhouse, calling it a historic day.
Turkey, which also faces the eastern Mediterranean, is opposed to the project, as it is eager to develop gas fields in the waters.
Last November, Turkey and Libya's interim government drew up their respective exclusive economic zones in a way that can block the pipeline routes.
Analysts say the development of gas fields in the eastern Mediterranean could become a new source of tension in the region.
