Sunday marks the centenary of the end of World War One. French President Emmanuel Macron will host a ceremony in Paris on Sunday to commemorate 100 years since the end of the war.
Leaders from more than 60 countries are expected to attend the function. They include Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso, US President Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Macron is likely to use the occasion to urge the international community to cooperate to avoid repeating the horrors of world war.
He was joined by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday in Compiegne, northern France, where the armistice ending the war was signed.
But analysts liken the growing trends of nationalism and exclusivism to past circumstances in which the emergence of fascism led to World War Two.
The World War One erupted in 1914 as a result of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir apparent to the Austro-Hungarian throne. The war continued for 4 years and claimed the lives of 18 million people.

He said that they had listened to the all the conversations in them and therefore know who murdered Khashoggi.
Erdogan urged Saudi Arabia to come clean about who is responsible for the killing.
He did not mention any details regarding the recordings.
Turkish and US media have reported that Turkish investigators have audio recordings of Khashoggi's murder and of the perpetrators discussing their plan kill him.

Japanese space agency JAXA says it has successfully sent cargo back from space for the first time.
A capsule containing crystalized proteins returned to Earth from the International Space Station on Sunday morning Japan Time as scheduled. It splashed down in the Pacific Ocean and JAXA sent a ship to recover it.
On Thursday the spacecraft Kounotori7 detached from the space station, which is orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 400 kilometers.
It gradually lowered its altitude to approach Earth. At 6:24 AM the capsule undocked.
JAXA says it recovered the capsule near the Ogasawara Islands.
Hirohiko Uematsu, Director of JAXA's HTV Technology Center, said he can give full marks for the successful return of the capsule to Earth.
Japan has previously relied on US or Russian recovery capsules to send cargo back from space.

Fourteen people have been found dead in a wildfire in northern California. The death toll has risen to 25.
The blaze started on Thursday in the town of Paradise, 300 kilometers north of San Francisco.
Local media reports say more than 110 people are missing. The fire authorities say 42,000 hectares of land have been burnt so far.
The smoke has reached San Francisco's Bay Area.
Poor visibility has forced many flights to be canceled or delayed at the city's international airport.
Another wildfire that started on the same day is still burning in Ventura County, near Los Angeles.
Fire officials say the blaze has damaged about 33,000 hectares so far, and they are trying to confirm reports that 2 bodies have been found.
An evacuation order is in place for more than 200,000 people. They include residents of the city of Malibu, home to a number of Hollywood celebrities.
The strong winds that subsided on Saturday are expected to intensify again on Sunday, raising concerns that the fire will continue to spread.

The gubernatorial and Senate elections in the US state of Florida are heading for recounts.
In last week's mid-term elections, the Republicans kept their majority in the Senate, while the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 8 years.
But vote counting is continuing in some states.
In Florida, the Republican candidates for both races were leading and have already declared victory.
But their leads were so narrow by Saturday that the state announced it will carry out machine recounts in accordance with state law.
Trump opposed the Democrats' call for a recount and tweeted, "Trying to steal two big elections in Florida! We are watching closely!"
US media say this will be the biggest recount in Florida since the presidential election in 2000.

Survivors of the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan say they are going to miss a disaster-hit factory that has become a symbol of their community.
The demolition of the seafood factory began on Friday in the Yuriage district of Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture, where more than 700 people died in the tsunami.
The first floor of the 2-story building was badly damaged, but its distinctive red signboard survived.
After the surrounding area was cleared of debris, the factory became a reminder of the devastating power of the tsunami and what Yuriage was like before the disaster. There was a plan to preserve the factory, but city officials decided to turn the area into a memorial park.
People visiting a Sunday market at a nearby port said they are sad about the demolition.
A 70-year-old man said he knew about the factory before the disaster. He said he wanted it to be preserved to keep the memories of the disaster alive.
A 32-year-old man said his child was born after the disaster and can learn about it only through buildings that have survived and other materials, so it's a pity one of the relics is going to disappear. He said the reconstruction work seems to be making progress in inland areas of the city, but many plots of land along the coast remain vacant.
Most of the buildings in Yuriage that were damaged by the tsunami have already been demolished. The former fire station in the district will be torn down next year.
