US President Donald Trump has expressed hope that he will be able to reach an agreement with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on the denuclearization of the nation.
Trump on Friday tweeted, "The deal with North Korea is very much in the making and will be, if completed, a very good one for the world."
He also wrote that the time and venue of the summit will be determined later.
Trump on Thursday accepted a proposal to meet with the North Korean leader by May. The proposal was conveyed to the president by a senior South Korean official who met Kim in Pyongyang.
US national security adviser H. R. McMaster is scheduled to speak about the planned summit at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday.
The Trump administration is keeping sanctions in place while maintaining its demand that the North take concrete actions toward denuclearization.

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono will visit Washington next week to talk with US officials about concrete demands for North Korea regarding denuclearization.
Before his trip, Kono will receive a briefing on Monday from South Korea's National Intelligence Service chief Suh Hoon about recent inter-Korean talks.
Suh met with North Korea's supreme leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang and then spoke with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
Kono will fly to the US on March 16th and plans to hold talks with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
He aims to confirm that Japan and the US will keep maximum pressure on North Korea until Pyongyang takes concrete steps toward denuclearization.
Some Japanese government officials feel a summit between the US and North Korean leaders would be the first step toward a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.
Others are skeptical. They say North Korea has twice failed to honor pledges to denuclearize. They say Japan should watch carefully to see if the summit will lead to North Korea abandoning its nuclear program and a resolution of the issue of the abduction of Japanese and other foreign citizens.

Japan's government will push to bring the 11-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement into effect early next year.
The signing ceremony of the agreement took place in Chile on Thursday, with ministers of all member countries taking part.
The TPP will go into force 60 days after at least 6 member countries complete domestic procedures, such as gaining parliamentary approval.
The ministers and others at the ceremony agreed to accelerate these procedures in their countries.
Japan is set to play a central role in bringing the multilateral trade deal into effect. It hopes to lead the push to wrap up domestic procedures by gaining Diet approval while providing support to other member countries.
Tokyo is also hoping to play a major role in expanding TPP membership by offering information to countries that are interested in the agreement.
The US withdrew from an earlier version of the TPP after President Donald Trump took office early last year.

President Donald Trump has suggested that Australia could be exempt from a move by the US to impose heavy tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
Trump tweeted on Friday that "Working very quickly on a security agreement so we don't have to impose steel or aluminum tariffs on our ally, the great nation of Australia!"
He said Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is "committed to having a very fair and reciprocal military and trade relationship."
On Thursday, Trump approved a plan to levy a 25 percent tariff on steel and 10 percent on aluminum. The tariffs will take effect on March 23rd.
Trump insists surplus production of those metals in China has been pushing down global prices, and that the tariffs are necessary for national security.
He has already said that Mexico and Canada will be exempt.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a TV interview on Friday that he expects there may be some other countries that will qualify for an exemption.
The Trump administration has not outlined a clear approach on the issue, and it remains to be seen how it will deal with other allies such as Japan.

Another eruption at a volcano in southwestern Japan sent smoke soaring to a height of 4,500 meters, the highest altitude reached since volcanic activity began 9 days ago.
The Meteorological Agency says the eruption occurred shortly before 2 AM Saturday at Mount Shinmoe, which straddles Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures. Volcanic rocks landed 1.8 kilometers away from the crater.
Agency officials say lava is still moving down the northwestern slope.
The agency is keeping the volcanic alert level at 3, on a scale of 1 to 5. This means people should stay away from the mountain.
The agency is warning that eruptions could send large rocks flying up to 4 kilometers from the crater, and that pyroclastic flows could travel 4 kilometers from the crater, as well.

Japan's Paralympic athletes won silver medals in the men's and women's alpine skiing downhill sitting categories on Saturday.
21-year-old Momoka Muraoka pulled off some tight turns, finishing second after Germany's Anna Schaffelhuber.
It was her first Paralympic silver medal. At the 2014 Sochi Games, she finished 5th in the women's giant slalom.
In the men's alpine skiing downhill sitting event, 37-year-old Taiki Morii won silver. He has won silver in 4 straight Games since the 2006 Paralympics in the Italian city of Torino.
Andrew Kurka from the United States won gold.
Sit-skiers use a specially designed ski called a mono-ski which is designed for wheelchair users or other skiers suffering from paraplegia.
The winners are calculated by multiplying their finish times with a factored number for the degree of impairment.
