Agriculture Minister Ken Saito says a document related to a controversial project to open a veterinary school in Ehime Prefecture has been found in his ministry.

Saito's announcement comes after Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters earlier in the week that the government was not aware of the existence of such a document. Suga expressed his intention to ask relevant government ministries and agencies to conduct a search.

The document outlines exchanges that took place when Ehime officials and representatives of the school's operator visited the prime minister's office 3 years ago to discuss opening the school.

The document includes Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's then secretary Tadao Yanase's description of the project as "a matter related to the prime minister."

Earlier this week, Ehime Governor Tokihiro Nakamura said that prefectural officials created the document as a memo about the meeting.

He also said the document may have been used by Ehime officials to explain the project to the Cabinet Office, the education ministry and the agriculture ministry, as part of their efforts to obtain government approval under a special deregulation program.

The school is run by Kake Educational Institution, which is headed by a close friend of Abe's.

Japan's Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera says his ministry will compile and release a list of all existing records concerning the daily activities of the Self-Defense Forces.

Onodera told reporters on Friday that the SDF's Joint Staff Office will complete the task by Friday next week.

He said the step is being taken so that the ministry can respond swiftly to any requests for information disclosure.

Following the revelations of the mishandling of the SDF's daily logs, Onodera instructed all ministry divisions and SDF units to search for daily records, including ones for overseas missions.

US President Donald Trump is consulting with British and French leaders as he mulls how to respond to an alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria.

Trump discussed the Syria situation with his national security team at the White House on Thursday.

A White House statement released later said the United States is continuing to assess intelligence and is engaged in conversations with its partners and allies.

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says he believes there was a chemical attack in Syria and that the United States is looking for the evidence.

Mattis addressed a hearing of a House of Representatives committee on Thursday.

He said the US is trying to get an inspection team from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to the site of the alleged attack.

But Mattis said collecting evidence becomes more difficult as time passes. He said even if the investigative team verifies the use of chemical weapons, "we will not know who did it."

Trump has claimed that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's administration has used chemical weapons. He said the US is considering a response, including military attacks.

The Syrian government and Russia, which backs it, strongly oppose the claims, which they say are fabricated.

Two skeletons of late Jurassic period dinosaurs have been sold for over 2.8 million euros, or about 3.4 million dollars, at an auction in Paris.

The skeletons of a 12-meter-long diplodocus and an allosaurus with a length of 3.8 meters were put up for auction on Wednesday.

Both dinosaurs roamed the Earth more than 140 million years ago. About 40 percent of the allosaurus skeleton was missing, but it was completed after 6 months of restoration work.

The auctioneers say they were surprised by the high prices, as they had expected the 2 skeletons to sell for about 1.4 million dollars.

Sources say that dinosaur skeletons are mostly bought by museums in Europe and the United States.

They add that there has been an increase in purchases by wealthy Chinese collectors who appreciate their artistic qualities.
