A research institute in Brazil says the average temperature in some parts of an Amazonian city has risen by 4 degrees Celsius over the past decade.
Researchers at a university in the state of Para say in central parts of the state capital, Belem, the average rose by 4 degrees to 34 degrees between 2006 and 2016.
They attribute the increase to the rapid loss of forests near the city and a greater number of high-rise buildings, which trap heat in the central part of the city.
Brazil's Amazon region is located near the equator, and the temperature there remains high throughout the year.
The average temperature in Belem continues to hit around 30 degrees Celsius every day, even though it is currently winter in Brazil. The hot weather is driving sales of ice cream made with Amazonian fruits.
The World Wide Fund for Nature says temperatures across the entire Amazon will increase by around 3 degrees by the year 2050 if deforestation continues and it warns of possible effects on ecosystems.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced sanctions against 2 American officials in retaliation for US measures against 2 of his ministers.
In a speech delivered in the capital, Ankara, on Saturday, Erdogan said that he gave orders to freeze the assets of the US justice and interior secretaries.
The move is in response to sanctions imposed by the US on the Turkish interior and justice ministers in protest against the detention of American pastor Andrew Brunson. Turkish authorities detained and charged Brunson on suspicion of involvement in a failed coup in 2016.
Erdogan called the US action disrespectful and unsuitable for the strategic partnership between the 2 countries.
He warned that moving political and judicial disputes into an economic realm will be harmful to both sides.
The Turkish economy has been worsening, and the value of its currency has plunged amid souring ties with the US.
The Turkish government has been demanding the handover of a US-based Muslim cleric who it believes masterminded the failed coup.
But the US has rejected the request.

The French and Finnish embassies in Japan are urging Japanese female students to come to their home countries to study medicine.
The embassies made the offer online following reports that Tokyo Medical University rigged its entrance exams to limit the number of women students.
The French Embassy in Tokyo posted a message and a chart on its official Twitter account. They explain that women account for more than 60 percent of all medical students at French universities.
The message also welcomes Japanese female students to study in France.
The Finnish Embassy also tweeted that Finland has the world's third-highest percentage of female doctors, and that the country promotes flexible work styles and a good work-life balance.
Some readers praised the Twitter posts as encouraging.
Others described the messages as subtle sarcasm aimed at pointing out that Japanese women are more socially marginalized than European women.
Thousands of people have re-tweeted the posts.
