A seven-story building under construction in southern Cambodia has collapsed. Local police say seven people have been confirmed dead.

The disaster occurred at around 5 a.m. local time on Saturday in the resort city of Sihanoukville.

Local media reports say Cambodian workers were at the site when the building collapsed.

Rescuers are searching for about 30 others who are believed to be trapped in the rubble.

Information minister Khieu Kanharith says police and firefighters are searching for the missing.

Sihanoukville is one of the most popular beach resorts in Cambodia. In recent years, it has attracted an increasing number of tourists from China.

The collapse occurred in an area where new hotels and condominiums are being built.

Local people say many Cambodian workers were using the building as their sleeping quarters.

Police are investigating the cause of the collapse.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree suspending flights from Russia to Georgia as large scale protests continue in Tbilisi, the capital of the former Soviet republic.

The protest was sparked by a visiting Russian lawmaker who delivered a speech in Russian inside the chamber on Thursday.

More than 240 people were injured in clashes with police and over 300 protesters have been detained.

The ruling party decided to call on the speaker of the Parliament to resign but a large number of protesters rallied again in front of the parliament from Friday into Saturday morning.

The opposition camp is demanding the release of the detained protesters.

Putin said the decree is for the safety of Russians. The suspension of flights begins on July 8.

Putin also urged travel agencies in Russia to postpone tours to Georgia.

The country is a popular destination, attracting around one million Russians per year.

The disruption to tourism will deal an economic blow to the country and also hit Russia's travel industry.

Russia made a military intervention in Georgia in 2008.

North Korea's state-run media says the country's leader Kim Jong Un and China's President Xi Jinping reached a consensus on important issues during Xi's visit to Pyongyang.

The ruling Workers' Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun devoted the first five pages of Saturday's edition to Xi's 2-day visit. Xi returned to China on Friday.

It says during Friday's luncheon, the leaders reaffirmed their intentions to carry forward and glorify the friendly relations between the two countries, whatever the international situation.

It also reports the two leaders exchanged views on the positive promotion of the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

They are believed to have discussed measures for the stalled denuclearization talks with the United States.

Xi's visit comes a week before the Chinese leader and US President Donald Trump are to meet at the Group of 20 summit in Osaka, Japan.

Observers say Kim may have asked Xi to deliver a message to Trump, possibly about a third meeting between Kim and Trump.

The US government has imposed more trade restrictions; this time on China's supercomputing industry.

The Commerce Department has placed five Chinese supercomputer companies and organizations on the list.

Once listed, US companies cannot do business with them without government permission. And the Chinese entities will not be able to purchase electronic components from US companies.

The US government says Chinese supercomputers are used to advance the nation's military, and that the entities are acting contrary to US national security and foreign policy interests. The US is tightening its restrictions on Chinese high-tech companies, as it has done to Huawei.

As the trade war worsens, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet on the sidelines of the Group of 20 in Osaka next week.

Japan's government plans to support middle-aged people who missed out on regular work during the country's "employment ice age."

The plan is included in this year's basic economic and fiscal policy approved by the Cabinet on Friday.

People currently in their mid-30s to mid-40s entered the workforce in the decade after the bursting of the economic bubble in the early 1990s and the onset of deflation.

The government plans to launch a support program for roughly 1 million people of the generation. The goal is to help 300,000 of them land full-time jobs in three years.

The basic policy also calls for raising the average minimum wage to 1,000 yen, or about 9 dollars, at an early date.

It says the consumption tax will be raised from the current 8 percent to 10 percent as scheduled in October, but hints at the possibility of more stimulus measures depending on economic developments abroad.

The government has also adopted a plan for implementing its growth strategy that calls for establishing a social security system that benefits all generations.

The plan says the government will present to the Diet next year a bill to oblige businesses to help secure job opportunities for workers up to the age of 70.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe instructed relevant ministers to promptly implement the proposals.

Abe said at a government meeting that his administration will unite to develop a robust economy in the country's new era of Reiwa.

Rui Hachimura, the first Japanese basketball player to be selected in the first round of the NBA draft, has expressed confidence in playing as a member of the Washington Wizards.

The 21-year-old told a news conference in the team's home arena in Washington DC on Friday that he is ready to bring a positive impact to the team both in defense and offense.

The Gonzaga University forward was born in Toyama Prefecture in central Japan to a Japanese mother and a Beninese father.

He switched between English and Japanese as he answered reporters' questions.

He said that he still cannot believe what happened on Thursday, that he was actually drafted by the Wizards.

He said that it was difficult to get used to the environment during the first year at Gonzaga University because he could not speak English.

He thanked his coaches and teammates, saying that their support helped him to get where he is now.

Hachimura also said that he can play in any way that the team and coaches want him to play.

He added that he is confident that he can bring a good impact to the team either in defensive plays or offensive plays, although the NBA games must be of different levels from college games.

Hachimura is expected to take part in the NBA Summer League in July, in which many new players will be on the roster.
