Key words : Trump announced legal challenge

The US presidential election has proven to be an exceptionally tight race. There is some surprising news from the White House, where President Donald Trump announced that he will mount a legal challenge to the election.

"So we'll be going to the US Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop. We don't want them to find any ballots at 4 o'clock in the morning and add them to list," Trump said.

He provided no further explanation of his intentions, but claimed he has won and alleged election fraud -- without providing any evidence.

Earlier, Democratic contender Joe Biden told supporters in Delaware that the results look good.

Biden said, "We believe we're on track to win this election. We knew because of the unprecedented early vote... It's going to take a while. We're going to have to be patient."

Despite these claims, it's still unclear who will take the presidency.

Our US partner, ABC News, is projecting Trump will take the key battleground of Florida -- and Texas.
The crucial Midwestern state of Ohio - which usually swings to the overall winner -- will also go to Trump.

But Biden is still very much in contention in a presidential race that will most likely come down to a few key wins.

ABC News is also projecting the Democrats will maintain control of the House of Representatives.

Both Trump and Biden have spent a lot of time and money campaigning in North Carolina, Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania -- all of which are yet to be called. Whichever way they fall could decide the presidency.

This has been an explosive election year in the United States - both because of the pandemic and because of a widening social rift.

For many, these close results seem indicative of a deeply divided country - with supporters on both sides saying the stakes are high.

Businesses in many parts of the country boarded up their windows in advance of Tuesday's votes, with the expectation that rioting could break out.
But, so far, no major incidents have been reported.

The US has decided to sell military drones and other equipment to Taiwan in its latest move to provide it with weapons.

The US government on Tuesday notified Congress that it had approved the sale of four MQ-9B SeaGuardian drones and other equipment worth 600 million US dollars to Taiwan.

A State Department official told NHK that the arms sales will be made to strengthen Taiwan's self-defense capability.

The official renewed US calls on the Chinese government to stop military, diplomatic and economic pressure on Taiwan and engage in dialogue.

The move is the latest in a series of US weapons sales to Taiwan. Recently, it decided to sell air-launched land attack missiles and other weapons, and later, Harpoon anti-ship missiles.

The administration is apparently aiming to step up pressure on Beijing.

Egypt has lifted import restrictions on fishery products from seven Japanese prefectures, which it imposed following the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident.

The measure eliminated import restrictions on Japanese food products from across Africa.

Egypt maintained the requirement for radiation tests on fishery products from the prefectures of Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma and Chiba even after it eased other import restrictions in stages.

Japan's fisheries ministry said it was informed by the Egyptian government that restrictions were lifted as of Monday.

Eighteen countries and regions, including China and Taiwan, continue to keep their restrictions in place for food items produced in some parts of Japan.

The Japanese government says it plans to call on such countries and regions to scrap the restrictions.
