South Korea says US Secretary of Defense James Mattis will visit the country next Thursday for talks with his South Korean counterpart, Song Young-moo.

South Korean defense ministry spokesperson Choi Hyun-soo said on Thursday the defense chiefs will discuss follow-up measures to the US-North Korea summit as well as inter-Korean relations.

The spokesperson said they may also hold consultations on the recent decision by the 2 countries to suspend a joint military exercise, Ulchi Freedom Guardian, which was supposed to be held in August.

It remains to be seen if the defense chiefs will discuss the cancellation or postponement of other annual joint drills. They include Foal Eagle and Key Resolve, which both take place in the spring.
Ahead of his trip to South Korea, US Defense Secretary Mattis will visit China. After South Korea, he will travel to Japan to discuss North Korean issues.

North Korea's state-run media has reported on leader Kim Jong Un's visit to China for a second day, highlighting the close links between the 2 countries as the North begins talks with the United States.

On Thursday, North Korea's ruling party newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, devoted 4 pages to the visit, with 35 photographs. The paper also had extensive coverage on Wednesday.

Kim wrapped up his 2-day visit to Beijing on Wednesday, after a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping and an economic tour of the Chinese capital. It was Kim's third trip to China since March.

North Korean media reported that Kim and Xi exchanged serious views on the present situation and urgent international issues, and discussed a further strengthening of the strategic and tactical cooperation between the 2 countries.

The report said the leaders were joined by their wives for a luncheon in a friendly atmosphere, and Kim thanked Xi for his hospitality.

Kim's previous visits to China were announced after he had returned home. This time, North Korean media announced Kim's visit while he was still in the Chinese capital.

The US Commerce Department says it has approved 42 requests for tariff exclusions for steel products, including those imported from Japan. The department denied 56 requests.

US officials granted the exemptions when they determined the products were not otherwise available domestically. The selections were made based on requests from US businesses.

The department still needs to go through some 20,000 requests for exemptions, and more time is needed to process them all.

The 42 requests cover 7 different companies that import steel products from Japan, Sweden, Belgium, Germany and China.

The Trump administration imposed steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports in March, citing national security.

The Japan Tourism Agency says private lodging service provider, Airbnb, may be listing several unregistered properties.

A new law introduced last Friday requires hosts who want to rent out their properties to register with local authorities, and bans accommodation brokers from providing unregistered properties.

The Agency says Kyoto City and some other local governments reported that the Airbnb website appears to list some unregistered properties, and some fake code numbers were also found.

It urges the website operator to investigate whether all hosts on the site are registered or not, and report the result as soon as possible.

The firm says it is looking into the matter and cannot comment right now.

Airbnb was forced to cancel thousands of bookings made to unregistered properties prior to the introduction of the new law.

Ferrari's 250 GTO was said to be the fastest production car on the planet when it hit the race tracks in 1962. One example is likely to notch a different kind of record when it goes to auction in August in the US. Experts predict it will fetch 45 million dollars.

Auctioneers RM Sotheby's say that would make the car the most valuable ever to be offered to the public for sale.

The auction house calls the model the holy grail of collector cars.

Ferrari built just 36 of them. The classic car is said to have been instrumental in helping the Italian automaker build its desirable reputation.

The car is currently owned by a chairman of a US software company.
