Senior officials from Japan, the United States and South Korea have agreed to work closely together to bring about the complete denuclearization of North Korea.

Namazu Hiroyuki is the director-general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau. He met with US Special Representative for North Korea Sung Kim and South Korea's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Kim Gunn in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on Tuesday.

The three stressed that they believe the unprecedented frequency of North Korea's ballistic missile launches poses a clear and serious challenge to the international community.

They promised to cooperate to denuclearize North Korea. They cited an agreement reached by the leaders of the three countries at a summit in August. The meeting was held at the Camp David presidential retreat near Washington.

Namazu said that he strongly condemns North Korea for ignoring UN Security Council resolutions. He urged Pyongyang to comply with obligations that are mandated by the international community.

He also asked the US and South Korea to help tackle the abduction issue. The director-general noted it is a humanitarian problem that urgently needs to be solved.

An international high-level meeting on the plight of Rohingya Muslim refugees was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday.

The meeting aimed to urge the international community to renew its commitment to the Rohingya ahead of the Global Refugee Forum to be held in December in Geneva.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi called for continued support of Rohingya refugees, as global attention is now focused on other crisis such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas conflict.

He said that it is important not to forget existing crisis, otherwise "the Rohingya and countries hosting them, first and foremost, Bangladesh, would be penalized by this shift of attention."

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims fled Myanmar in 2017 to escape a brutal crackdown. Nearly one million refugees are now living in camps in neighboring Bangladesh.

Grandi expressed a sense of crisis as the amount of aid has dropped sharply. The funding shortfall is affecting the wellbeing of the Rohingya refugees. He added that diminishing support "places an additional burden on those host countries, which is unfair. They are already hosting many refugees."

He also said the international community needs to work to stabilize the situation in Myanmar, which is currently ruled by the military, to ensure the safe and dignified return of the refugees.

Tourism officials in central Japan have held a lavish alfresco dinner event for local people and foreign tourists on the grounds of one of the country's most famous castles.

Guests paid 670 dollars each to savor local delicacies of Nagano Prefecture at Matsumoto Castle.

About 40 people from Japan and abroad attended the "Delicious Journeys in Matsumoto" event on Monday evening.

It was held for the first time. The aim was to let people know more about local food and ingredients of the region, whose traditional name is "Shinshu."

Nine chefs prepared a multi-course dinner, which was a feast not just for the palate but the eyes as well.

Shinshu wagyu beef and Mont Blanc creamy cake made from locally grown chestnut were on the menu, complemented by local wine.

Part of the proceeds will be used to maintain the castle, whose history stretches back over 500 years.

The event organizer says he hopes to create a tourism model that benefits local producers by offering high-quality and highly valued items.
