The government has submitted a proposal to Diet committees to reappoint Haruhiko Kuroda as the governor of the Bank of Japan.
Kuroda has been pushing easing measures in a bid to achieve a 2-percent inflation target.
The steps include a negative-interest-rate policy.
Kuroda's current five-year term as BOJ chief expires in April.
Opposition party members have been demanding Kuroda be replaced.
They want to see a change in monetary policy as the BOJ has delayed its forecast six times on the timing of achieving the 2-percent goal.
But Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has expressed hope that Kuroda will continue to conduct aggressive easing.
Abe has said he trusts the governor's judgment.
The government has also nominated BOJ Executive Director Masayoshi Amamiya and Professor Masazumi Wakatabe of Waseda University as deputy governors.
Wakatabe is seen as an advocate of aggressive monetary easing. He opposed the government's consumption tax hike in 2014.

Japan's Foreign Minister and the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency have agreed to work together to persuade North Korea to accept IAEA inspections.
Taro Kono met with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano in Vienna, Austria, on Thursday.
Amano described North Korea as a threat to the world. He said the IAEA is ready to dispatch inspectors to the North again if the situation allows.
Kono replied Japan is willing to support the IAEA to prepare for the North's possible dismantling of its nuclear program due to pressure through sanctions.
The IAEA halted inspections in the North in 2009 when its inspectors were forced to leave the country.
Kono and Amano also confirmed the agreement between the 2 sides to enhance measures against terrorism in the run-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
Before the meeting, Kono met with the secretary general of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Thomas Greminger.
They agreed that they cannot tolerate the North's nuclear program and that the international community needs to cooperate to maximize pressure on the country.

North Korea has pledged to advance its nuclear and missile programs on the eve of the birthday of leader Kim Jong Un's late father.
The North held an assembly in Pyongyang on Thursday to celebrate the 76th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's birthday on February 16th. The day is a national holiday.
Kim Jong Un skipped the meeting in the country's capital. But the vice chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, Choe Ryong Hae, delivered a speech at the gathering.
Choe stressed that North Korea should firmly strengthen its self-defensive nuclear deterrence and step up the development and production of powerful, cutting-edge military hardware.
Choe said North Korea will make every effort to ensure the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula. He added the country will also expand and develop its external relations under the principles of peace and friendship.
But he stopped short of making any substantive mention of ties with South Korea.
The North sent a high-level delegation to the South for the PyeongChang Olympics, creating a conciliatory atmosphere between the 2 Koreas. But the country is apparently continuing to push forward its nuclear and missile programs.
Pyongyang staged a military parade on February 8th, the eve of the opening ceremony of the Olympics. The procession featured intercontinental-class ballistic missiles, including the Hwasong-15.

Japanese surgeons have instructed their Russian counterparts on endoscopic surgery in Moscow as part of an economic cooperation program between Japan and Russia.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe proposed the 8-point program at a bilateral summit in 2016, in a bid to help resolve the issue of the Northern Territories, comprising 4 islands. Russia controls the islands. Japan claims them. The Japanese government maintains the 4 islands are an inherent part of its territory. It says they were illegally occupied after World War Two.
Extending life expectancies in Russia is among the program's 8 items.
On Thursday, 4 surgeons from Japan's Oita University Hospital taught 12 Russian surgeons at a medical college in Moscow how to use a Japanese-made endoscope.
The Japanese doctors gave detailed instructions in English, focusing on what role each doctor of the team should play in performing the surgery.
A British research firm says sales of medical equipment in Russia have increased nearly 30 percent over the past several years and are predicted to reach around 9 billion dollars next year.
Japan hopes to make inroads into this potentially lucrative market while helping enhance the level of medical services in Russia.
Oita University President Seigo Kitano, who led the Japanese team of doctors, says the medical assistance will boost Japan's presence in Russia. He says he hopes friendly relations between the 2 countries will deepen and eventually lead to resolving a variety of pending issues.
