Japanese weather officials say Typhoon Tapah will likely approach the country's southwestern island of Kyushu on Sunday.

The Meteorological Agency estimates that as of 7 a.m. on Sunday, Tapah was situated over the East China Sea and was moving north-northeast at 20 kilometers per hour.

The agency says the storm is generating sustained winds of 126 kilometers per hour and gusts of 180 kilometers per hour.

Tapah is expected to approach northern Kyushu without losing its strength. The storm is predicted to pass over the Tsushima Strait or nearby areas before heading to the Sea of Japan.

Tapah is likely to approach northern Japan from Monday onward.

Some parts of Kyushu received more than 350 millimeters of rain for the 24 hours through 7 a.m. on Sunday. Weather officials issued a mudslide alert for some areas in Miyazaki and Kumamoto prefectures.

On Sunday, Tapah will likely hit Kyushu and other areas of western Japan with powerful winds. It will also make seas rough around western and northern Japan.

Tapah is also forecast to dump heavy rain. Total rainfall for the 24 hours through Monday morning could reach more than 300 millimeters in Kyushu and Shikoku.

Tapah could even bring stormy conditions to areas away from its path.

Weather officials are warning of violent winds, high waves, mudslides, swollen rivers, and flooding.

Iran has displayed foreign-made drones which it says were used by its enemies. Tension between the United States and Iran has risen following attacks on Saudi oil facilities.

Iran's state-run media reported that the country's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps put the drones on display on Saturday in Tehran.

Local media report that the exhibits include US-made drones that the revolutionary guards recovered but how they did that was not made clear.

Speaking at the opening, the commander of the corps, Major General Hossein Salami, said Iran will fight until the full destruction of any aggressor against the country.

Iran appears eager to show its defense capability as US President Donald Trump points to its alleged involvement in the attacks on Saudi oil facilities and maintains pressure on the country.

The only working reactor at Three Mile Island, the site of the worst commercial nuclear power accident in the United States, has been shut down due to financial difficulties.

Unit 1 at the nuclear plant in the eastern state of Pennsylvania went offline on Friday.

The reactor's operator estimates that the process to decommission the unit could take six decades and cost more than 1 billion dollars.

Unit 1 had been the only functioning reactor at the plant since the partial nuclear meltdown at the facility's Unit 2 in 1979.

It is the latest in a series of reactors in the US that are due to be scrapped.

The profitability of the nuclear energy industry is falling due to competition with other forms of power. Costs of safety measures have been growing after the 2011 accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan.

China has established diplomatic relations with the Solomon Islands after the southern Pacific country broke ties with Taiwan. It's viewed as another step forward in Beijing's campaign to isolate Taiwan.

The foreign ministers of China and the Solomon Islands met in Beijing on Saturday and signed a joint statement saying their governments were forming diplomatic ties.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the Solomon Islands recognized that there is only one China in the world, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.

Solomon Islands' Foreign Minister Jeremiah Manele said China is the largest trading partner of his country. He said the decision to establish relations with China is based on national interests.

Beijing has been increasing diplomatic pressure on Taiwan's government under President Tsai Ing-wen, who rejects the "One China" principle.

On Friday, another southern Pacific nation, Kiribati, decided to end diplomatic relations with Taiwan and establish ties with China. Taiwan now has diplomatic relations with a record-low 15 countries.

Beijing is apparently displaying its growing influence ahead of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1.
