Israel says Iran launched aerial drones at Israel
The Israeli military says Iran has launched multiple aerial drones toward Israel.
The announcement took place shortly after 11:00 p.m. Saturday, estimating that it would take several hours for the drones to reach Israel.
Iran's state-run news media says the launch was in response to an April 1 bomb attack on the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus, Syria, which is believed to have been carried out by Israel.
The bombing killed a senior commander of the Revolutionary Guards, among others.
Iran's state-run television reported that the country's Revolutionary Guards Corps has fired dozens of drones toward Israel.

Reports: Iran launches drones, fires missiles toward Israel
Iran's state-run television is reporting that Iranian missiles have been fired toward the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
This is believed to be in retaliation for the killing of a commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in an attack earlier this month on the Iranian embassy in Syria. That attack is believed to have been carried out by Israel.
Earlier, Iran's state-run television also reported that the country's Revolutionary Guards had sent multiple drones toward Israel.
They say the launch was in retaliation for the April 1 killing of a commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in that apparent Israeli attack on Iran's embassy in Syria.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, local time, or shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday, Japan time, that Iran had sent multiple drones from its territory toward Israel.
The Israeli military said it would take several hours for the drones to reach its territory.
Earlier on Saturday, Iran's state-run news agency reported that the country's Revolutionary Guard Corps had seized ships related to Israel near the Strait of Hormuz.

WSJ: Israel preparing for attack from Iran
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Israel is preparing for a direct attack from Iran after an air strike on Tehran's embassy in Syria April 1.
The US newspaper on Thursday quoted a person familiar with the matter as saying that the attack could come in the next 24 to 48 hours.
The paper also referred to an Iranian source as saying that while plans to attack are being discussed, no final decision has been made. Iran accuses Israel of carrying out the attack.
Reuters news agency reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had told the United States that Tehran will respond to the purported Israeli attack in a way that avoids major escalation.
Iran's message was reportedly conveyed through Oman, a Gulf nation that has served as an intermediary between Iran and the US.
Media outlets in Israel are reporting that Lebanon-based Shia militant group Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, and Yemen's Houthi rebels could also launch attacks against the country.

S.Korean media: North in final stage of spy satellite launch preparations
South Korean media have reported that North Korea's preparations to launch a military spy satellite are in the final stage.
Pyongyang earlier said that last November's launch of its first military satellite, Malligyong-1, was successful. It announced plans to launch three more military reconnaissance satellites this year based on its five-year defense program.
South Korea's Yonhap News Agency on Sunday quoted a government source as saying preparations are essentially completed. The assessment was based on the situation at a facility in Tongchang-ri, where North Korea's Sohae satellite-launching station is located in the country's northwest.
Citing the source, Yonhap also reported that it is highly likely that the launch will be timed around major North Korean political events this month. On Monday, the North will mark the birthday of Kim Il Sung, the country's founder and the grandfather of its current leader Kim Jong Un.
South Korea's Defense Minister Shin Won-sik has said Pyongyang may go ahead with the launch as early as mid-April.
South Korean military and US forces have been on high alert, continuing their monitoring and surveillance activities.

Japan marks 8 years since Kumamoto earthquake
Sunday marks eight years since a deadly earthquake hit the southwestern Japanese prefecture of Kumamoto.
On April 14, 2016, a quake of seven on the Japanese scale of zero to seven hit the town of Mashiki. Another quake with the same intensity struck the same town two days later. Quakes of this level have never hit the same area twice since record-keeping began.
The series of quakes left 276 people dead in Kumamoto and neighboring Oita prefectures including disaster-related deaths.
More than 198,000 homes were either damaged or destroyed in 40 municipalities in Kumamoto.
All temporary housing was closed in March, last year after many residents found permanent residences to live in, such as public housing for quake survivors. Up to 47,800 survivors lived in temporary housing at one time.
NHK interviewed municipal governments about people who moved into the public housing for quake survivors. NHK has learned a man and a woman, both in their 70s, were found dead between April 2023 and March 2024 with one of them found two days after her death.
The officials say 37 percent of the 1,663 households residing in public housing are elderly people living by themselves.
Kumamoto Prefectural government says it will work closely with municipal governments to better understand isolated survivors and support those who have moved into public housing.
