South Korea says its upcoming talks with the North will involve ministerial-level officials from both sides.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday in the truce village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone between the 2 Koreas.
The officials will discuss inter-Korean ties and the North's possible participation in next month's PyeongChang Olympics, among other topics.
On Saturday, South Korea's Unification Ministry submitted a list of the 5-member delegation that will be headed by Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon. The ministry also asked Pyongyang to send a ministerial-level delegation.
The ministry said North Korea notified the South on Sunday afternoon that it will dispatch a 5-member delegation led by Ri Son Gwon, the head of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea.
The committee is the liaison body with the South.
The dialogue will be the first of its kind since December 2015 and also the first since South Korean President Moon Jae-in launched his administration last May.
Analysts say North Korea is trying to promote talks with the South in a bid to counter the US stance of increasing pressure on Pyongyang to force it to abandon its nuclear program.
But North Korea may use the dialogue to demand a suspension of the annual joint military drills between the US and South Korea.
Concern is rising in South Korea and elsewhere that the North may be seeking to drive a wedge between Seoul and Washington.

North Korea's state-run media is demanding that South Korea not work with the United States in dealing with the North. This comes ahead of high-level talks between Seoul and Pyongyang on Tuesday.
The Korean Central News Agency said on Sunday the idea of relying on external forces is poisonous and that problems will only become complicated by doing so.
It claimed that North and South Korea should set aside their past, unite in their hearts as people of the same ethnic group, and sincerely discuss improving bilateral ties.
The KCNA says authorities in both Koreas should play a leadership role in improving relations. It added that the results of the upcoming dialogue will depend on their efforts.
Although US President Donald Trump has expressed hope for the scheduled inter-Korean talks, a State Department spokesperson cautioned last Tuesday that North Korea might be trying to drive a wedge between the US and South Korea.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has welcomed upcoming talks between North and South Korea, but said that any discussions will be pointless unless the North commits to give up its nuclear and missile programs.
Abe commented on the high-level talks in an NHK program on Sunday. Representatives from the two Koreas are scheduled to meet on Tuesday. Abe said the North has shown a willingness to cooperate on the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. He said he welcomed the change, as the Games are designed to promote peace.
But he added that "dialogue for the sake of dialogue is meaningless." He said the only thing that will give the talks meaning is committed and concrete action by Pyongyang to abandon nuclear weapons and missiles in a "complete, verifiable and irreversible way."

Iran's foreign minister has ridiculed the United States for its attempt to get the UN Security Council to censure his country for its handling of anti-government protests.
Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote on Twitter on Saturday that "the UNSC rebuffed the US's naked attempt to hijack its mandate." He called it a foreign policy "blunder" for the administration of President Donald Trump.
The Security Council failed to take a united stand on Iran in Friday's emergency meeting, which was requested by the US.
The United States urged other members to demand Iran improve its human rights record. But Russia and China refused to interfere in what they called Iran's domestic affairs.
More than 20 people have been killed in the crackdown of the nationwide protests since late last year.
No casualties have been reported in recent days, and security measures appear to be easing in central Tehran. Diplomatic sources say the demonstrations are abating.
State-run television is airing footage of pro-government rallies held across the country. People are shown expressing their loyalty to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and chanting "Death to America."

US military officials appear to have begun dismantling and removing a helicopter from a beach in southern Japan, one day after the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing there.
The incident is the latest in a string of problems involving US military aircraft in Okinawa Prefecture, and has reignited anger about the danger to the residential population.
Officials were spotted on Sunday morning carrying the propeller and other parts of the UH-1 helicopter away from the beach.
The aircraft, deployed from the US Marine Corps Futenma Air Station, made the emergency landing on Saturday afternoon on Ikeijima Island, about 100 meters from the closest home.
None of the crew or local residents were injured.
The head of the Okinawa bureau of the Defense Ministry, Koichiro Nakajima, visited the site and was briefed by police and US military officials on Sunday morning.
Nakajima told reporters that the frequency of US military aircraft incidents has unsettled the people of Okinawa. He called on the US military to operate its aircraft safely.
The prefectural government is preparing to lodge a protest with the Defense Ministry's local bureau as early as Monday.

Young men and women in 3 northeastern Japanese prefectures that were ravaged by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami marked a rite of passage on Sunday, attending ceremonies before Japan's Coming of Age Day. The national holiday on Monday honors people who turn 20.
Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures will have 56,060 new adults this fiscal year. About 170 took part in a ceremony in the town of Shichigahama in Miyagi.
Mayor Kaoru Terasawa told them he felt moved by the way they have overcome adversity. He urged them to follow a path they believe in, without fear of the challenges along the way.
The participants were in their first year of junior high when the disaster hit, killing a female fellow student and destroying their school buildings.
Toshiki Nakagawa and Nami Asano gave a speech on behalf of those who attended the ceremony. They said the tsunami robbed them of precious things, but thanks to the efforts of many people, their town was reborn. They said it is time for all of them to take a step forward.
Asano was friends with the student who died. She said she wished they could be at the ceremony together. She said she wants to think of ways new adults can help with the reconstruction.

The US astronaut John Young, the only person to fly with 3 NASA space programs, has died. He was 87.
Young was a naval pilot before he became a NASA astronaut in 1962.
Three years later, Young made his first journey into space with the Gemini 3 mission. He smuggled a sandwich on board as a practical joke, stunning NASA officials.
In 1972, Young made his 4th space flight as the commander of the Apollo 16 mission and walked on the Moon.
He was also the commander of the inaugural flight of NASA's first space shuttle, Columbia, in 1981.
Young had completed 6 space missions by 1983.
He later worked in management at NASA, focusing on safety issues, until his retirement in 2004.
