North Korea has denounced Japan's prime minister and foreign minister for urging the international community to increase pressure on Pyongyang.
Its state-run TV announced the remarks on Thursday as a statement from the Foreign Ministry's research institute on Japan.
The statement condemns Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Foreign Minister Taro Kono by name, saying they are sticking to sanctions against North Korea.
Abe discussed stepping up pressure on North Korea in meetings with leaders of Baltic and other countries during his recent overseas trips.
Kono attended a foreign ministerial meeting in Canada earlier this week to talk about North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
The statement says it is absurd for the prime minister to think that boosting pressure will cause North Korea to change its policies.
The statement refers to the fact that Abe also used the overseas visits to discuss the abduction of Japanese nationals by North Korean agents. It suggested the abduction issue has already been resolved.
North Korea has been denouncing Japan and the United States for intensifying pressure on Pyongyang, while showing off its efforts to improve ties with the South over its participation in next month's PyeongChang Olympics.
Analysts say the latest statement is meant to drive a wedge into joint efforts by Japan, the US and South Korea to deal with the North.

North Korean officials are in Switzerland for talks with the International Olympic Committee on the North's participation in the upcoming PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea.
North Korean sports minister Kim Il Guk, who heads the country's Olympic Committee, and the North's IOC member Chang Ung arrived in Geneva on Thursday. Chang has said everything is going fine.
The IOC says it will meet on Saturday at its headquarters in Lausanne with officials from the Olympic Committees of the 2 Koreas and the organizing committee of the PyeongChang Games.
Officials from North and South Korea have agreed to form a joint women's ice hockey team. They also plan to have their athletes march together at the opening ceremony.
Both sides have reportedly agreed that the North will participate in the figure skating pair event, as well as the alpine and cross-country skiing events.
In the meeting on Saturday, the delegates are expected to finalize the size of the North Korean team and the events they will join.

Members of the United Nations Security Council have taken a unified stance on North Korea's nuclear program, but remain divided over a treaty to ban nuclear weapons.
The members held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres attended, as did ministers from Russia and Britain.
US Ambassador Nikki Haley called North Korea one of the biggest threats to the world.
The members agreed that the North poses a serious threat to the nuclear non-proliferation framework.
But they were unable to find common ground on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, adopted at the UN general assembly last year.
None of the countries with nuclear weapons have joined.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said it would be dangerous for these nations to give up their weapons without considering national interests and strategies.
The British state minister for Asia and the Pacific, Mark Field, criticized the treaty for providing no solution to the extremely complex security environment or nuclear disarmament issues.

Japan's Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera says he will make a request to the US military not to fly aircraft over an elementary school in Okinawa.
Onodera told reporters on Friday that the bottom part of helicopters can be seen in footage taken from the ground, and that the flyovers have frightened the children, teachers and parents.
Onodera said the footage and visual observations by ministry officials have confirmed that the helicopters flew over the school on Thursday afternoon. He said the ministry will send the footage to the US side, and request it to re-examine the flight path.
The US military says the helicopters did not fly over the school.

An exhibition in Tokyo is putting the spotlight on cutting-edge wearable devices, including shirts with sensors that might help prevent heatstroke.
More than 160 companies are showcasing their technologies and products at the 4th Wearable Expo.
One set of goggles features augmented-reality technology. They project digital images over real-life scenes.
The developers believe the eyewear can be adopted on factory floors. Workers could view instruction manual in the goggles. That would leave their hands free, so they can carry on working.
A textile maker is displaying shirts with sensors to gauge the wearer's heart-rate and other biometrics. The data can be sent to smartphones or tablets.
The company says the devices are being tested out on construction workers to see if the technology can prevent heatstroke in the summer.

Japan's Foreign Ministry has opened a facility in the US city of Los Angeles to promote Japanese high tech and culture.
Japan House opened at a popular commercial complex in central Hollywood on Thursday.
It's the 2nd facility of its kind, following one in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Another is planned for London, UK.
The facility in Hollywood has a section selling traditional tableware and seasonings that are essential for Japanese cuisine.
There's also a gallery where visitors can learn about Japanese culture, including the latest fashion trends.
Another floor with a Japanese restaurant and a multi-purpose hall are to be completed around the middle of this year.
Graphic designer Kenya Hara is in charge of the overall project. He said his aim is to display authentic culture of Japan that the country wants to show, and not necessarily what foreign nationals want to see.
Japan's Foreign Ministry also plans to open a section introducing Japan's positions on historical issues to get broader support from international society.
