US President Donald Trump says he will decide soon whether to relist North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.
Trump was speaking to reporters on Sunday aboard the Air Force One presidential aircraft heading to Tokyo from Hawaii.
Trump said North Korea's nuclear and missile development programs are a big problem for the United States and the world. He said he wants to get it solved.
The US president said he plans to discuss putting more pressure on North Korea with leaders of the 5 countries he will visit on his Asian tour.
Trump said ordinary people in North Korea are more diligent and warmhearted than the world thinks. He said it would be great if the problem could be solved for them.
The US government put North Korea on a list of state sponsors of terrorism in 1988. But it removed the country from the list in 2008 after an agreement on verification of the North's nuclear development program.
But there have been calls in the US Congress to blacklist the country again following the killing of Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of the North's leader, and the death of an American university student shortly after his release from a North Korean prison.

NHK has learned that arrangements are being made for a Japanese woman who was abducted by North Korea to meet US President Donald Trump.
On Monday, Trump is scheduled to meet with families of Japanese citizens who were abducted by North Korean agents in the 1970s and 80s.
Sources say Japanese and US officials are working for that meeting to include Hitomi Soga, a former abductee who returned to Japan in 2002. Sakie Yokota, the mother of Megumi Yokota, who was abducted by the North at the age of 13, is among others expected to meet Trump.
It would be the first time for a former abductee to meet a US president. Family members of the abductees met George W. Bush in 2006 and Barack Obama in 2014.

Police in Tokyo say 3 high school girls may be among the victims in a serial murder case near the capital.
The dismembered bodies of 9 people were found in the apartment of the 27-year-old suspect, Takahiro Shiraishi.
He told police that he killed 8 women and one man there since August.
The investigators are trying to identify the victims from personal belongings found in the apartment and GPS records from their cell phones.
They believe the female victims include 3 high school students. One may have been as young as 15.
Police say the only man was likely a boyfriend of one of Shiraishi's victims.
Investigators say Shiraishi told them that he dismembered the bodies in the bathroom, where they found traces of blood.

Lebanon's prime minister has resigned, citing what he believes is an assassination plot against him. He also criticized the Shia Muslim organization Hezbollah and its supporter Iran.
In a televised address from Saudi Arabia on Saturday, Saad al-Hariri said he sensed what is being plotted covertly to target his life.
Hariri said when he took office, he promised he would seek to unite the Lebanese and end political division. He added that unfortunately this pushed Iran and its allies to increase their interference in Lebanon's internal affairs.
Iran's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that his baseless accusation is designed to create tension in Lebanon and the Middle East.
Lebanese government posts are assigned to different forces to allay religious and sectarian strife.
Hariri, who is a Sunni Muslim, became prime minister last year. His biggest challenge was to reconcile with Hezbollah, whose influence has been growing.
Hariri's father, who was also a Sunni, was assassinated in 2005 while he was prime minister. This plunged Lebanon into turmoil, with Sunnis accusing Hezbollah of playing a role in the killing.

At least 19 people are dead as Typhoon Damrey has hit Vietnam.
The storm made landfall in southern Vietnam on Saturday, bringing heavy rains and violent winds to the province of Khanh Hoa and surrounding areas.
Local media say Damrey has left more than 10 people missing, destroyed more than 300 homes, and caused widespread power failures.
Video footage shows houses with roofs blown off and electricity poles along the coast knocked down.
Heavy rains have reportedly caused damage in the central city of Da Nang, where Asia-Pacific leaders are scheduled to meet for an APEC summit later this week.
The typhoon was later downgraded to a tropical depression in neighboring Cambodia.
Heavy rains caused floods and landslides in many areas of Vietnam in October, leaving more than 100 people dead or missing.
