The UN General Assembly has approved a resolution by acclamation urging all member states to observe the "Olympic Truce" for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games.
The resolution titled "Building a peaceful and better world through sports and the Olympics ideal" was proposed by more than 70 countries, including Japan, the United States and South Korea.
It calls on UN member states to stop fighting from 7 days before the Winter Olympics start on February 9th until 7 days after the Paralympic Games end on March 18th.

The latest resolution includes the expectation that the PyeongChang Games will be an opportunity to foster peace on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.
It also represents hope that harmony will be nurtured among Japan, China and South Korea, as successive Games are to be held in 2020 in Tokyo and 2022 in Beijing.

The Japanese government has approved a plan to remodel the main stadium for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics to one for exclusive use by team ball sports after the 2020 Games.
Relevant ministers held a meeting on Tuesday and approved the basic proposal. It was compiled by a working group on post-Games management of the stadium, now under construction in central Tokyo.
Under the plan, spectator seats will replace the running track to raise the stadium's capacity to 80,000 people, allowing it to host international soccer and rugby matches. It specifies that the stadium should be ready to use for the ball sports from mid-2022.
The plan says proposals will be drawn up by around 2019 to transfer the stadium's management to the private sector, for example selling concessions to independent operators.
