Investigative sources say Hakuho was interviewed at a hotel in Fukuoka, western Japan, on Tuesday morning. The year's final sumo tournament ended in the city on Sunday.
Hakuho was present at the lounge bar in Tottori, western Japan, when the alleged assault took place in late October.
Harumafuji has admitted to hitting lower-ranked wrestler Takanoiwa with his bare hands and with a karaoke remote control. The Mongolian wrestlers were out drinking during a regional tour.
Those present at the time have reportedly said that Takanoiwa continued to fiddle with his smartphone while Hakuho was cautioning him about his daily behavior.
This is said to have enraged Harumafuji.
Hakuho earlier told reporters that he intervened, and took Takanoiwa out the room.
Police have already interviewed the other wrestlers present.
Investigators are expected to look for inconsistencies in the accounts given by the wrestlers.
