North Korea says it will dismantle a nuclear test site in the country's northeast sometime between May 23rd and 25th.

The state-run Korean Central News Agency made the announcement on Saturday night, quoting a press release from the Foreign Ministry.

According to the announcement, the site's underground tunnels will be collapsed using explosives. Then, after all entryways are shut, ground-level observation facilities and research centers will be removed.

It says the date for the dismantlement will be set depending on weather conditions.

The ruling Korean Workers' Party made the decision to abandon the Punggye-ri nuclear test site at a plenary meeting of the Central Committee last month. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un also pledged at the inter-Korean summit to close the test site this month.

The announcement also says journalists from China, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and South Korea will be allowed to cover the dismantling, to ensure the transparency of the process.

It says the country will arrange a flight for the reporters from Beijing to the city of Wonsan.

Analysts say the country is hoping the move to allow on-site coverage will demonstrate how seriously it's taking denuclearization ahead of the upcoming first-ever US-North Korean summit.

French media are reporting that the suspect in Saturday's knife attack in Paris is a man in his 20s from Chechnya. Police are questioning his parents.

The suspect attacked pedestrians near Opera Garnier, killing one man and injuring 4 others before he was shot dead by police.

Prosecutors say the suspect shouted "God is great" in Arabic. They are investigating the incident as a possible act of terrorism.

A media outlet linked to the Islamic State militant group said the suspect was a member. But the claim has not been verified.

France has been on high alert since extremists killed 130 people in Paris 3 years ago. But further attacks have occurred despite the tight security.

In March, a hostage-taking incident involving a suspected Islamic militant left 4 people dead in the southern city of Carcassonne.

Indonesian investigators say a local organization supporting the Islamic State militant group was behind the church explosions in Surabaya on Sunday.

An official of the country's intelligence agency told the media that the explosions were coordinated terror attacks by the organization.

Blasts hit 3 churches in Indonesia's second-largest city during Sunday services, leaving 11 people dead and 40 injured.

Police say a suicide bomber caused the explosion at one of the churches.

Investigators are on the alert, saying that the organization may be planning more attacks.

China's state media says the country's first domestically-built aircraft carrier has started sea performance tests.

The Xinhua news agency reports that the new aircraft carrier set sail for the trials from a port in the northeastern city of Dalian, Liaoning Province, on Sunday.

The conventional-fuel-powered vessel is about 300 meters long. Its design was based on China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, which was bought from Ukraine and refurbished.

The new aircraft carrier has an inclined ramp and can accommodate more aircraft than its predecessor.

Analysts say China plans to enhance its maritime strength with at least 4 aircraft carriers, including a nuclear-powered model.

Local media say the Chinese-built carrier may be handed over to the military as early as in the latter half of this year.

Last month, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the creation of a "first-class navy" at a major naval review held in the South China Sea.

China is making clear its intention to accelerate the building of aircraft carriers to step up maritime activities.

Malaysia's new Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad, has announced a policy of reviewing all business projects involving foreign investors.

Mahathir spoke at a news conference in the capital Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

His opposition alliance won Wednesday's general election. The result marks a seismic shift for a country that's seen only one coalition in power since independence.

Mahathir said projects with foreign investors would be reviewed to determine how they would benefit his country. He also said Malaysia would remain friendly with all countries, not favoring any one in particular.

The projects to be reviewed include a plan to build a high-speed railway between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Japan and China are vying for the contract.

Some Japanese officials say they are concerned about whether the change in power will affect the project.

Japanese researchers and engineers have developed a system that issues predictions about tsunami 15 to 30 minutes after an earthquake occurs.

Tohoku University, electronics maker NEC, and 2 other Japanese companies developed the system that uses supercomputers to analyze earthquake data from the Meteorological Agency. It can predict the arrival time and location of tsunami, and also forecast the height of the waves.

Areas that could be submerged are shown on a map, as well as places where buildings could be damaged.

Tohoku University and the 3 firms established a venture company, RTi-cast, in Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture this month.

RTi-cast says subscribers can receive its predictions 15 minutes to 30 minutes after an earthquake hits.

Businesses and medical institutions will be able to use the service from next April. RTi-cast also plans to offer it to local governments.

The firm's president, Yoichi Murashima, says damage could not be assessed quickly after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. He says he hopes the new service will help to mitigate the impact of disasters.
