Anti-government protesters in Thailand have submitted a list of their demands, including reform of the monarchy.

Demonstrators holding the 10-point list marched to the Privy Council Chambers in Bangkok on Sunday morning. They are calling for the elimination of a constitutional clause that bans criticism of King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

Police blocked the demonstrators from entering the chambers. A co-leader of the protesters negotiated with the police bureau chief and handed the petition to the officer.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha led a military coup in 2014 and was the head of an interim government. He remains in power following last year's general election.

The protesters accuse him of taking an authoritarian stance with military backing. They are also critical of the monarchy for endorsing the administration.

Organizers say over 50,000 people took part in a rally in the capital on Saturday. The protesters occupied a square outside the Grand Palace overnight.

They installed a plaque in the square that says the state belongs to the people, not to the royal family.

The demonstrators say they will continue to hold rallies until their demands are met. Prayut has not shown his intention to reform the monarchy at all.

US President Donald Trump says he has given his "blessing" to the proposed sale of the US operations of the popular video-sharing app TikTok to US companies including Oracle. He said he "approves a deal in concept."

Oracle has already agreed on a deal with ByteDance, Chinese operator of TikTok, and submitted it to the US authorities.

Trump told reporters on Saturday that "if they get it done, that's great and If they don't. that's OK, too."

He said that the security will be 100 percent and that the new company will hire at least 25,000 people.

Trump previously ordered ByteDance to sell TikTok operations in the US, citing national security risks.
He said the Chinese government could abuse users' data.

TikTok says in a statement that the new company will be established to operate the TikTok app and Oracle and Walmart will own its equity stakes. It added that Oracle will provide technical support to protect users' data.

Trump and his administration want to ban the use of TikTok in the US in November, but a successful deal will avoid that. But any deal also needs to be approved by Chinese authorities.

US Commerce Department announced that it will delay the ban on downloading TikTok by a week to September 27, citing "positive developments " in the negotiations.

The United States has announced that it has reimposed all United Nations sanctions against Iran.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement on Saturday that the United States welcomes the return of virtually all previously terminated UN sanctions on Iran.

The UN has lifted most of its sanctions under the 2015 nuclear deal between world powers and Iran. The UN also plans to lift the arms embargo on Tehran in October.

But the US administration of President Donald Trump had demanded reinstatement of the sanctions, including the extension of the arms embargo.

In August, the US notified the Security Council that it had begun the process of restoring the sanctions.
But most UN Security Council member states say the US had no legal standing to take that action as Washington has withdrawn from the Iran nuclear deal.

The US disagreed and said it would apply robust sanctions of its own.
Pompeo said in the statement that if UN member states fail to fulfill their obligations to implement these sanctions, the United States is prepared to use its domestic authorities to impose consequences.

The Trump administration is apparently trying to shore up support from conservatives ahead of the November presidential election.

US President Donald Trump says he will soon select the replacement for US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died on Friday at the age of 87.

Trump wrote in a Twitter post on Saturday, "We were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people." He added that the most important decision "has long been considered to be the selection of Supreme Court Justices." He said it should be done without delay.

Supreme Court justices have great influence on divisive US issues, such as gun control and abortion, because they make the final judicial judgment by majority vote.

With Ginsburg's death, the court has a 5-3 conservative majority.

Trump's two previous selections for the court were conservatives. If the Republican-controlled Senate approves Trump's third nominee, the top court will be even more conservative.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden insists the winner of the November 3 election should choose Ginsburg's replacement.

Her death this close to the election has left the two parties locked in an ever-intensifying fight.

About 200 precious books, including first editions of works from the 17th century by Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton, were found from under the floor of a house in Romania.

The books were stolen in 2017 from a warehouse in west London, where they were stored temporarily before a planned auction in the United States.

Police say that the burglars avoided sensors by cutting holes into the warehouse roof and stole the precious and rare books worth about 3.2 million dollars.

They say there have been 11 similar cases in Britain. Police in Britain, Italy and Romania, with support from European Union's police agency Europol, raided 45 sites in the three countries last year.

The investigation led to the arrest and indictment of 13 people linked to a Romanian crime group for their involvement in cases between 2016 and 2019.

An experiment is underway in Tokyo that would enable people to enjoy a virtual visit to a commercial complex during the coronavirus outbreak.

The project uses an avatar, which is a robot that can be remotely controlled from a home computer.

A Tokyo-based IT company and a major construction firm started a test run in Ota Ward on Friday.

The 1.5 meter-tall avatar is equipped with a monitor on its body. People can make video calls remotely using the camera and microphone on their home computer.

On Sunday, workers conducted a test to remotely control the avatar to enable it to talk with people walking in a commercial complex and ask about products at a shop.

They also used a sensor to operate the avatar so that it can lead another robot loaded with luggage.

A representative from the IT firm said they are developing robots to help solve social challenges.
He added many people cannot go out due to the coronavirus outbreak and that his company wants to make it possible for people to use the avatar to virtually shop and visit museums.

The test runs through Tuesday.

The first public museum which seeks to pass along the legacies of the 2011 nuclear accident opens on Sunday in Fukushima Prefecture, northeastern Japan.

The Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum is located in Futaba Town, where an evacuation advisory was partially lifted in March.

Futaba is one of the host towns of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant -- the site of one of the world's worst nuclear accidents.

Three of the plant's reactors melted down following a massive earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

The prefectural museum has large screens showing what the communities looked like in the wake of the accident, and how the residents evacuated.

About 150 items and videos are on display, highlighting the initial confusion, decontamination efforts, and prolonged impact of the accident.

One of the items is a whiteboard scribbled with words and numbers as officials frantically dealt with the unfolding disaster at a government base near the plant.

Local people will also be stationed at the museum to share their experiences.

The opening was originally planned for July to coincide with the Tokyo Olympics, which symbolize the recovery from the 2011 disaster. But it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Olympics were also postponed by one year.
