South Korea's Yonhap news agency says North Korea has staged a military parade to mark the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.

The report cites an informed source as saying that an anniversary ceremony began in a square in Pyongyang at around 8 p.m. on Thursday, followed by the parade.

It was the North's first such parade since February. All five military parades since October 2020 took place at night.

Prior to the latest parade, state-run Korean Central Television aired footage of the country's leader Kim Jong Un accompanying Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu on a visit to an arms exhibition.

The video showed what North Korea says is the solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile known as Hwasong-18, which was test-fired for the second time on July 12. It also showed what is believed to be a newly developed large drone.

North Korea is expected to announce the parade on Friday through state-run media.

Analysts will be closely watching to see if the parade featured new weapons while Chinese and Russian delegations were in attendance. Another focus is whether Kim used a speech to send a message to the United States and other countries.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has agreed with Chinese President Xi Jinping that they will advance cooperation on a project to build Indonesia's new capital.

Joko met Xi in the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province for talks on Thursday.

Indonesia's presidential office said the two leaders discussed the construction of a site on East Kalimantan, where the Indonesian capital is to be relocated from Jakarta.

The new capital will be called Nusantara.

China's foreign ministry said Xi told Joko that Beijing will offer cooperation in such areas as so-called new energy vehicles, including electric cars, and smart city technologies.

China has been strengthening economic cooperation with Indonesia through its Belt and Road Initiative, which includes a marquee project of the construction of an Indonesian high-speed railway.

Japan has also begun providing support for Indonesia aimed at improving the quality of its infrastructure.

But competition over infrastructure projects in Indonesia is expected to become fierce. South Korea has stated that it intends to provide assistance for the construction of water purification facilities and roads.

Nissan Motor has posted record sales for the April to June quarter due to strong performance in Japan and North America.

But the Japanese automotive giant struggled in the Chinese market amid a rapid shift to electric vehicles.

Nissan said on Wednesday group revenue for the three months ended June rose 36.5 percent year on year to nearly 3 trillion yen, or about 21 billion dollars.

Net profit more than doubled in yen terms to 750 million dollars.

But unit sales in China plunged 45.8 percent to 162,000.

Nissan cut its sales forecast for China to 800,000 vehicles this business year from 1.13 million.

President and CEO Uchida Makoto said the company is strengthening its lineup in China with hybrid models.

He added that Nissan will also work with its local joint venture partner to introduce new models in the Chinese market.
